how about the gov't get rid of marriage period (straight, gay, etc) and make all marriages private ceremonies? too bad those who think this aren't getting their voice heard. It's either you are for gay marriage or you're for straight marriage. Those who endorse this view want equality for all, and that means single people too.

not saying i endorse that, and i'm not saying i don't either, i'm not gonna tell you, but i just see black and white thinking in this issue, and there's always that crazier voice that offends people that gets lost in these debates.

I actually don't disagree. Make civil unions the defacto "marriage" and make actual marriages, something that is not recognized by law.

so does that mean that if we don't agree with you, you might hit us with your purse? (sorry I had to) :stongue:

nope. im agnostic. i just like antagonizing people who antagonize other people with whom they don't agree with.

public ridicule!??! WAT!? the Supreme court deemed it unconstitutional so the people did the, ya know,... DEMOCRATIC thing and put it to a vote.

I am agnostic too, but I also side with the people that are being tolerant of others, logical, and proper. Not the religious right (most of the people who are voting for this) that is obsessed with being intolerant.

and my whole point in this was that i don't see a lot of tolerance on this board for the religious right. i see stereotypes about Mormons still being propagated. how can people condemn a certain group of people for not being tolerant when they themselves are not tolerant of them? (not directed at anyone in particular)

I am a former Mormon, and the only stereotype (that is only propagated by people and NOT the media) is the bigamy.

And the stereotype of the religious right pushing their views, is a stereotype that is either undeserved, nor incorrect. They do this each and every day, constantly.

You must be blind or something, but I see it constantly. Movies, Music, etc has to filtered for the religious right, banning gay marriage, not wanting our kids taught about condoms, the different forms of birth control, safe sex, etc. The list goes on.

movies and music? hey guess what you have a choice not to listen to it. if you were being forced to listen to it...? yeah no.

banning gay marriage? thats funny because marriage is actually a function of the church so if anything, gay people are trying to force their views upon them.

sex ed? sex ed has been a part of public schools for some time now. even after 8 years of republican right bush. don't see your point there.

you have a very good point there about marriage, church and forcing views.. and by the way Democrat or Republican. they are all hipocrites and at the end of the day they both shake hands.

Umm the movie rating system was devised by religious people so that they could control it. The same principals were applied to music.

Marriage: while it started as a religious thing, it is no longer restricted to religion. Atheists get married for sakes.

Sex Ed is all about abstinence and not teaching the things that you will actually encounter in daily life. Oh except STDs.
