Because it is the religious right dictating what people can and can't do. |

| this really isn't about gays, it's about defending the idea of equality and civil rights for all over the idea of institutionalizing discrimination and projecting religious morality upon all of society. i'm more concerned about the precedent marriage bans set than i am the definition of marriage itself. any time the government tries to ban something, you should be concerned. |

In North America, laws against interracial marriage and interracial sex existed and were enforced in the Thirteen Colonies from the late seventeenth century onwards, and subsequently in several US states and US territories until 1967. The junior class president, ReVonda Bowen, whose father is white and mother is black, asked the principal what his order meant for her. The principal allegedly replied that Bowen’s parents had made a “mistake” and that he hoped to prevent others from doing the same |

See how it works when you try to push your own views on others that don't believe? You get offended and stupid. You must be part of the religious right.

The government deferred it to the people in an effort to stem the public ridicule. |
