see how that works :) |
the difference is that "that group of people" isn't trying to deprive the other groups of people of equal rights. gays and people who support their rights can stereotype jesus freaks. you can't compare that to jesus freaks projecting their narrowminded values upon society through lawmaking.
see how that works?

the government isn't trying to ban it. |
government, people, people using the government, whatever... it really doesn't matter who or how. the constitution guarantees all americans equality of rights and a set of unalienable civil liberties. just because a legal process is used, doesn't mean the action it pursues is legal. the constitution is the supreme law of the land and an unconstitutional california voter initiative, even if passed, is still unconstitutional. |

and my whole point in this was that i don't see a lot of tolerance on this board for the religious right. i see stereotypes about Mormons still being propagated. how can people condemn a certain group of people for not being tolerant when they themselves are not tolerant of them? (not directed at anyone in particular) |
i am very tolerant of people who are tolerant of others, but i don't have to tolerate judgmental, self-righteous hypocrites just like i don't have to tolerate racists and bigots.

banning gay marriage? thats funny because marriage is actually a function of the church so if anything, gay people are trying to force their views upon them. |
marriage is not an institution exclusive to christianity. other cultures have been marrying couples long before christianity existed. in this country marriage has nothing to so with religion. by law, marriage is a legal contract between two people that affords them tax exemptions, caretaker rights and shared ownership over each others assets. i can't believe you don't know this fact.

really? i must being doing something wrong because i can't remember the last time i had religious people pushing their views upon me in ANY way. maybe because im not looking for it? :conf: |
correct, you aren't looking for it. why is media censorship an issue? why is planned parenthood (condoms, birth control, abortion) an issue? why is sex education in the school an issue? why is embryonic stem cell research an issue? why is gay marriage an issue? why is having the ten commandments placed in a government courthouse an issue? why is the true geologic age of the grand canyon an issue? why is the teaching of evolution in public school an issue? i could go on and on if i only spent some time to think about how religious people push their views upon me... |

sex ed? sex ed has been a part of public schools for some time now. even after 8 years of republican right bush. don't see your point there. |
Travis you act like no one has any agenda at all in this country. :stongue: |

the hipocrisy of this state is that voters voted NO, then some judges got paid pretty darn good money to overturn that vote.. i love the way democracy works. they should rename it CAPITALISTCRACY, or DEMOCRALISM. someone help me out with a clever name for this combo? |

No matter how you put it, it is discriminatory and would be found illegal at some point. You are just legitimizing it by making it law. |

what hypocrisy? if only you knew how your own government worked, wouldn't that be something? here's some help: capitalism is a economic system and democracy is a form of government. |
