however what I don't get is what Israel gains in all this? |
to humiliate and marginalize Hamas.
the reason you "don't get it" is 1) you don't appreciate the continued danger and existential threat Hamas poses to ME peace, not just Israel. 2) you don't accept that Hamas is an internationally recognized exporter of extremist jihad. 3) you do not respect the outcome of the 1967 Arab/Israeli war. 4) you do not appreciate Iran's role in arming, funding, training and equiping of paramilitary groups and the inherent consequences of such effort.
| quote: | | I tend not to support flagrant inhumane acts. |
you have every right to tell us your opinion, but if you think for one minute this was inhumane then take another look at armed conflict in the 20th century. hell even this century
look, i'm not so arrogant to think i can convince you to be pro-war or a non-pacifist but there are some really awful, awful people in Gaza that want to do things that just cannot be tolerated anymore than they already have been if you are genuinly interested in peace and the peace process.
| quote: | | you Do you have an explaination how this is going to reduce the anguish and hatred? |
for people like you? no. whatever Israel does with her army will always be looked upon as senseless agression and genocide against the innocent fun-loving Islamist paramilitary groups.
for people that seriously want peace, nothing could be more comforting and hopefull than watching the Arab world marginalize a defeated and humiliated Hamas |

wow man, very interesting coming from a self described "unattached third party" that considers the value of people on both sides to be worthless.
now you're beginning to say things of consequence. how does that make you feel? more human? less human? |

Neither really, just be interesting to see two seemingly forever quarreling tribes to not just keep going tit for tat.
I mean I do have some faith in humanity, just not much for Israelis and Palestinians. A little humanity from these barbarians would be a nice change. |

Hamas is seen in the Western world as no different from Al Quaeda, and more importantly the US sees them in a similar light to the Taliban.
Jordan, Egypt, and even Fatah knew Israel was going to pund Gaza HARD this time around. In fact, most of the leaders of the Arab world knew it, and the Arab league is even postpoing its discussions on the escalating situation in Gaza. The Arab foreign ministers could have met Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, but they've pushed it to Wednesday. They see Hamas as a proxy of Iran.
The Western world is in the midst of a post-Christmas/New Years mode. The major Western leaders and governments are all on vacation until early to mid January. This suits them just fine as they have little sympathy for Hamas.
Hamas was democratically elected by the people of Gaza, and as such Western leaders have little regard when the citizens of Gaza fall victim to this escalation. They brought this on themselves, and Hamas brought this on them. They can cry about being the underdog all they want, but little will be done to help them until they help themselves by asking for a proper ceasefire.
They need to let Abbas regain control of Gaza since he can bring peace and quiet to the strip, and can properly negotiate a real peace with Israel. Hamas can't negotiate since they dont even recognize Israel's right to exist, and Hamas takes their orders from Iran.
If Mohammad were alive today he'd be standing with the people of Israel, whom he had great respect for. |

let's put aside the fact you just made clear (and accurate btw) distinctions between "peacefull Gazans" and their political and military handlers (one in the same btw), WHY IN THE DO YOU THINK THATS ANYBODY ELSES RESPOSIBILITY BUT THEIR OWN? |

Thats like what I read about Cuba in middle school in an obvious piece of propaganda.
It was told from the point of view of a little Cuban girl who talked about how they had monthly rations of things such as toilet paper and stuff like that.
It failed to mention anything about their former largest trading partner imposing an embargo on the country and that none of its nearest neighbors were in much better shape than its own.
Gaza is shunned by the west due to Hamas, yet the people of Gaza elected Hamas to represent them.
Its dual edged sword if you want to deal with them. If you help them then you help Hamas, but the ones you want to help like Hamas. Nothing can get better because no one wants to touch Hamas and thats what keeps Hamas in power is the lack of any sort of real alternative.
Sucks. |
