definitely miss guys like Oakley and Antonio Davis.
I certainly can't wait for Reggie Evans to be activated.
remember when Kobe humiliated the Raps for 81 points several years ago? many coaches and players were in awe...but many were also critical of the Raps bending over and taking it. not a single guy covering him even fouled out, never mind sending a message that you're not going to let someone embarrass your team like that.
Antoine Walker had a gem, "I think with the 81 now, no other team or other players will let that happen. Now guys will foul out trying to stop him from doing that. If someone gets 81 on me, I'm going to clothesline him". |

| surprise surprise, another 3rd quarter collapse from a team that fails to make halftime adjustments. Yikes, I'm losing hope for this team. |

I lost hope sometime throughout the Boston game. They get completely embarrassed by Charlotte and how do they answer back? By taking it up the ass (again) from Boston. It's been 3 years since Colangelo took over and the same issues are there year in, year out. Absolutely no mental toughness; no defense; settle for too many jumpers and no inside game whatsoever. I was never a complete believer in Colangelo but now I'm starting to believe that this guy just pretends to know what he's doing and it was all thanks to Dad, and some serious luck in Phoenix.
2 major roster changes in 3 years and we're still in the same boat for crying out loud. |

I think Colangelo is def. over rated, but some of the players have to take the blame too.
I think one of the main culprits is Calderon.
His lackluster defense hurts the entire team. He makes average players look like allstars on the court! |

just let him go under the screen on the high pick and roll. Hide his inability to move. Don't give up the switch, and take your chances on a PG killing us with 3's and outside shot rather than give up so many points in the paint and him getting other people involved. |

I agree. I wish Colangelo would pull another rabbit out of a hat and somehow trade Calderon for Monta Ellis. I can't stand watching Calderon play on defense or offense. He's extremely passive when he shouldn't be. Nash isn't an excellent defender by any means and Jose did nothing to attack the old guy and wear him out a bit. On defense he was his typical pylon self that can't move if his life depended on it.
Also, Marc Iavaroni needs to GTFO. He's the guy that brought the "defense" this year and his reputation has nothing to do with D. His previous team went from a decent defensive team to one of the worst once he took over. I don't get how somebody with that sort of rep gets to develop the defensive schematics for our team. If you want defense go after somebody that has worked in a successful system. |

I'm starting to question to leadership of certain players on this team. When it comes down to it, we have the talent, there is no question. Defense isn't particularly a matter of skill more so than it is effort. Who sets the tone for the effort and the intensity of the team? The teams leaders.
Look at how well a bunch of San Antonio scrubs play under the leadership of Tim Duncan. Look at how well the NBA's worst bench played when winning a championship under the leadership of Kevin Garnett. If you want to talk about pussies, I think Bosh is right up with the softest of the Euro bunch. You can just tell in the way he's deferring questions now. "Oh, all we do is talk about it, we need to start doing it." Well, obviously if all you do is talk about it, and you're not doing it, maybe something in the way you talk about it is wrong. It's been said before, and I'll agree with it now, Bosh isn't "the" guy. He has the skill, but he doesn't have the intangibles to be that guy.
Combine all of this with a mediocre coach, and voila....this years team. No so called "expert" had the raps finishing greater than 7th or 8th in the conference. Most of espn's picks as well as nbatv's picks had them missing the playoffs. |

I think quality defense comes from quickness, intelligence, communication and effort. We lack all of those things from almost 3 of our starters. The 4th is an athletic rookie that Triano seems content on coddling with ~19 minutes of play (why won't they run some plays for the kid already??) and the 5th is our franchise player who has the quickness but doesn't always give the effort and lacks some basketball IQ to put him on the level of Duncan or Garnett. I wouldn't put the blame on him though, as it's managements responsibility to surround their star player with teammates that compliment his skill set and make up for any deficiencies he may have. And it's the coaching staff's responsibility to develop a system and teach these players how to play within it.
I agree that Bosh isn't "THE" guy but he's good enough to build around. Plus all these guys are supposed to be pro's and it's up to them to give 100%. The problem is that we have a lot of slow players, guys who can't speak English and guys who lack mental toughness. Combine that with a mediocre coach, like you said, and a half-assed coaching staff that has no business creating defensive schemes, and yea...that's the 2009-2010 Toronto Raptors.
This is the most flawed team Colangelo has built in my opinion, and it's his and coachings fault how the team is playing. Whenever I see Triano is post-game/practice interviews he's way too calm and too much of a nice guy. He seems to have this "baby steps" attitude going. And I'm still blown away as to why Iavaroni is the defense coach. Biggest WTF ever. |

looks like i have have been a bit generous when I predicted 35-40 wins.
they have a fairly easy schedule for decemeber, I REALLY hope they capitalize on it, otherwise we're screwed. |
