| I was all for the Kleiza signing when we had a good core and a star player to build around. At this point however, I doubt he'll be able to contribute at the same level he did in Denver. |

I lol'd when he essentially said that he would have signed for 25-30 :D
I'm really glad they resigned him...but that was a bit much and I'm doubting he would have received it on the open market AND he said he wanted to come back anyway.
I will have a really hard time sympathizing with the owners and league when they lockout the players and cry poor next year
I guess what I'm saying re: the Raps is I like the targets...but whoever is negotiating the contracts seems a bit loopy.
I know I sound like a broken record on this...but I'm still holding out hope the Raps land Biedrins. With GS obtaining Lee, I'm pretty sure they are still shopping Biedrins (and Monta's fat contract). |

not only that but he has to deal with the egos. that is beyond difficult. |

| I'm not worried about that Margs. Riley has had his fair share of big time superstars in the past. If anyone can handle them, it's him (and Phil Jackson) |

Open Letter to Fans from Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert
SOURCE
| quote: | Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....
Dan Gilbert

So the Raptors didn't get completely screwed and managed to get a TPE and 2 draft picks with the Bosh departure. I actually think that's a pretty good deal, versus acquiring players we may not need. Cleveland is looking to do the same with Miami but I'm curious what other assets Miami has that they could offer Cleveland.
With the TPE we've got roughly 16 million of spending money and there's a lot of possibilities out there, especially from teams looking to save. We also know how Colangelo loves trading picks away, so we might actually be able to land some quality players this off-season. Raptors Republic posted a full list of teams that have players for that kind of money that they might want to get rid of here: http://raptorsrepublic.com/2010/07/...use-the-tpe-on/
Some interesting and mind-boggling possibilities. Imagine we manage to pry Chris Paul away from New Orleans, who are looking to save serious money. It's honestly not out of the realm of possibilities, especially since his contract expires in 2012 and he's definitely not staying with NO. Suddenly the departure of Chris Bosh is a welcome one. You got young guys like Amir Johnson, Sonny Weems and DeMar that could totally go on the fast break with Paul. OMFG!
Chauncey Billups would be another welcome addition. His work ethic, determination and professionalism would be great for this young team.
Biedrins is available for 9 million which means we could get somebody else for the remaining 7 million. That would also make a lot of us happy here since we've been screaming for him for the past 2 seasons.
Big Al Jefferson would give us a legitimate centre (finally!!!). It's too bad we couldn't put him beside Bosh since that combo would've been better than Bargs/Jefferson.
If we can't get Paul I think our best scenario would be to pick up 2 guys, like Biedrins or Gortat, and a swingman/shooter like Barbosa. |

that letter was epic...talk about a meltdown, hahaha. at least he had the sense to proceed with a sign-and-trade to land the trade exception.
I don't thin the Cavs are screwed and I'm confident they'll make the playoffs. While Lebron can't be replaced, and the entire offense needs to be reworked, they still have a lot of talented young players like Mo, Hickson and Varejao.

agreed. they are all saying the right things NOW, but we'll see how the season plays out. as said, maybe only Riley and Phil Jackson, perhaps Popovich too, .are equipped to manage the egos, lol. |

indeed...I've been one of those people making noise for Biedrins for a long time. a few co-workers are sick of hearing me talk about him, haha.
I can't see Paul coming to Toronto, but stranger things have happened. I think the Hornets should trade him. Collison isn't proven, but they aren't going anywhere with that lineup and need to rebuild.
Jefferson would be fantastic, IF he's healthy. Gortat would be a GREAT pickup.
I liked Doug Smith's blog on this in the Star...he suggests waiting and seeing how the season goes. Raps might be able to maximize the value of that money when other teams are more desperate to make a move or shed salary. With BC's contract up, how he uses this trade exception is a 'make or break' thing, I think... |
