Can you please give the names of the studies in question, or rather the people who conducted them?

http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT00122525

These were the instructions given to men post-circumcision: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/ar...20298.st003.pdf
quote:
"When you are circumcised you will be asked to have no sexual contact in the 6 weeks after surgery. To have sexual contact before your skin of your penis is completely healed, could lead to infection if your partner is infected with a sexually transmitted disease... If you desire to have sexual contact in the 6 weeks after surgery, despite our recommendation, it is absolutely essential that you use a condom."

I was wrong about the second study. It looked at the reverse - whether circumcised men are less likely to transmit the virus to females and was stopped when the data did not support this (but possibly supported the opposite conclusion). http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(09)60998-3/abstract

Not a big fan of the obvious anti-circumcision sites.

From the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse...

http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/statist...n-Chapter13.pdf

quote:
In boys, the most widely discussed host risk factor for UTI is the presence of the prepuce. It is clear that male infants with an intact prepuce are at a significantly higher risk of UTI during their first year of life. Colonization of bacteria on the inner preputial mucosa occurs, but it is not clear whether this is the etiology of infection (8). Circumcision is protective against UTI, but it carries its own risks. Uncircumcised boys have an overall 12-fold increased risk of urinary infection during their first 6 months compared with circumcised boys, in addition to a significantly higher probability of hospital admission for UTI (7.02 of 1,000) as compared with circumcised boys (1.88 of 1,000; P<0.0001) (9).

From the AAP policy statement...

quote:
Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision. In the case of circumcision, in which there are potential benefits and risks, yet the procedure is not essential to the child's current well-being, parents should determine what is in the best interest of the child. To make an informed choice, parents of all male infants should be given accurate and unbiased information and be provided the opportunity to discuss this decision. It is legitimate for parents to take into account cultural, religious, and ethnic traditions, in addition to the medical factors, when making this decision. Analgesia is safe and effective in reducing the procedural pain associated with circumcision; therefore, if a decision for circumcision is made, procedural analgesia should be provided. If circumcision is performed in the newborn period, it should only be done on infants who are stable and healthy.

They are neither recommending or opposing circumcision. They are saying that it is a decision to be made by educated parents, weighing the risks and benefits. A policy I agree with.

Flame away...don't hold back. :D

Mate, being a doctor doesn't give you any extra legs to stand on. Are you a specialist in this exact area of the body or a GP? I see well over 2500 GPs every year as part of my job and believe me when I say that being a doctor doesn't make you any more intelligent than a non-healthcare professional. Book smarts are not the same thing as intelligence.

You're trying to prevent a minor cancer which is just absurd. I don't know where to begin with you. Are you also going to shield your child from the entire world because so many things on this planet are a carcinogen?

Now now, gotta have respect for those that believe.

Only when it's a personal belief and does not affect others. Circumcision is an irreversible change that can have a very negative impact on somebody else. That is essentially always the problem with religion, the fact that it affect other people.

EDIT - UTIs? Come on, those are readily treated and quite straightforward to cure. UTI in an infant is not a sufficient reason for a circumcision. Talk about overkill for a common infection.

I don't remember where I left off, but has anyone mentioned that uncut cocks look gross? Girls don't like them, they're scary.

Yes, all girls hate beards too, all girls love fat guys and all girls prefer tall men, because you know....women are all exactly the same

Didn't expect such a retarded and completely out of touch statement from you.

NO YOU'RE A TOWEL!

(I really don't get the Anteater reference :conf: )
TranceOwnsLol
lol, most of the girls that have replied so far preferred circumcised.

I got circumcised when I was 11, so I've been in both ends of the spectrum, and I prefer it circumcised to non circumcised. It feels more manly to me.

Your weird uncut wiener looks like an anteater.

Sushipunk
LMAO. How does it look weird? Just because you haven't been looking at an uncut one for a couple of decades? :p Mr Broadsword looks perfectly normal to me, and he's comfortable with himself too. No need for all this cosmetic rubbish!

Hollywood's changed you Bas. You used to be so cool, but now it's all just about appearance :o

:p

I can't believe no one has brought up the aerodynamic benefits of a circumcised penis. I bet I can run faster than you Aussie slowpokes...what with your extra skin providing far too much drag.
