However, if the subject is what you want to argue, fine. Eating meat is not required. Eating meat is a choice; people can choose not to eat it, and therefore it becomes a want. You want to eat meat, you want to include it in your diet, you do not want to be an herbivore.

If I was simply comparing it to food in general, then your argument would be valid, but I am not.

You are looking at this from a 21st century perspective and some of the 20th century. It's easy these days in a Western country to get enough supplements and the right fruits/vegetables to replace the required nutrients in meat. In poorer countries and also the entire world just a couple of hundred years ago, vegetarians would be died a whole lot more than now.

Simple fact is meat was an absolute requirement and cooked meat is one of the most crucial parts of why we are where we are today as humans.

One can argue that we have moved on now and don't require meat, but can anyone actually provide a convincing argument as to why we should stop eating meat? FYI - Animal cruelty is not a valid argument.
No other animal in the entire world shows compassion towards other animals.

I've given you two others. Personal health and environmentalism.

And Christ, you guys keep saying that we're so evolved and smart. We're so much different than other animals. Just because lions don't care about killing for food doesn't make it okay. , lions also kill other lions to move up in position. Does that make it okay for me to kill my way to the head of a major corporation?

Personal health - Provide a world perspective, not a USA perspective. FYI - The US of aiiiiiiiiiii doesn't represent the world, nor is it a representative sample base.
I want to see proper, peer reviewed studies showing the clinical significance of a vege diet over a balanced diet.
Also, ever asked a nutritionist what they recommend most people eat? "A balanced diet".

Environmentalism - Talk about small fish to fry. Focus your efforts on pollution, toxic emissions and deforestation, not tiny changes that will have an amazingly negative effect on the vast majority of the human population.

And you really don't need to eat that much. It's quite easy to get energy and not eat meat.

I stand by my point that the two reasons people eat meat is selfishness and laziness.

Fruit Size Calories
Apple 1 medium with skin 80
Apricot 1 30
Avocado 1 medium 324
Banana 1 medium 107
Blackberries 1 1
Cherry 1 2.4
Clementine 1 30
Currants 1 5
Dates 1 12.5
Gooseberries 1 2.6
Grapes 1 2.4
Grapefruit 1 whole 100
Guava 1 medium 46
Kiwi 1 medium 34
Lemon 1 medium 20
Mango 1 medium 40
Melon 1 whole 110
Nectarines 1 medium 42
Olives 1 6.8
Orange 1 medium 60
Passion Fruit 1 30
Peach 1 medium 37
Pear 1 medium 98
Pineapple 1 cup 75
Plum 1 25
Prunes 1 9
Raisins 1 5
Raspberries 1 1.1
Strawberries 1 2.7
Tangerine 1 26
Watermelon 1 cup 50

Only 8 of those exceed 50 calories.

Meat Type Calories Fat
Bacon Calories (average rashers) 500 45g
Beef Calories (average lean) 275 20g
Lamb breast (roast) 398 30g
Lamb Chops (grilled) 368 28g
Lamb Cutlets (grilled) 375 31g
Lamb Leg (roast) 270 17g
Lamb Shoulder (roast) 320 24g
Pork Belly rashers (grilled) 400 35g
Pork Chops (grilled) 340 24g
Pork Leg (roast) 290 20g
Pork Trotters (boiled) 290 23g
Veal fillet (roast) 240 12g
Chicken Calories (average) 140 12g
Duck (roast) 330 30g
Goose (roast) 350 25g
Partridge (roast) 250 8g
Pheasant (roast) 250 9g
Pigeon (roast) 242 13.5g
Turkey (roast) 165 6g
Hare 155 6g
Rabbit 187 8g
Venison 200 6.5

The lowest caloric value is 140!

You could need anywhere from 1500 to 3000 calories a day, or 18.75 - 37.5 apples in a day. Unless you are gorging yourself with avocados and melons all day, you probably are eating a hell of a lot of different fruits/veggies aka a lot more intake than if you were to eat some very high caloric meats to boost the total caloric intake up faster, and thus have to eat less.

It isn't rocket science. Meat = more caloric value, more energy. Our BMR require a considerably high number of calories a day. Almost 40 apples (which are higher on the calories scale) is a little ridiculous when I could supplement a small piece of meat to make up for 5 apples.

Energetically, it makes more sense for us to be eating at least some meat.

Small fish to fry? Then why did the U.N. recently conclude that the meat industry is worse for the environment that the auto industry?

that is not analogous with the need to eat.

You're complete ignoring grains and nuts here ;)

Vegans and vegetarians don't only eat fruits and vegetables for Christ's sake.

so are you saying we should kill all the animals so they don't contribute to global warming?

Meat is horrible for you ;)

Yeah. You need to eat. But you don't need to eat meat. Crazy, I know. Eating meat is pure selfishness and laziness, that's all it is.
