Meat eaters! Why do you eat other animals? (pg. 19)

haha funny thread :D

agree with pck and fledz on this one:
why do we all think we're so above our animal heritages anyway? vestiges of a persisting anthropocentric morality???
as was posted a number of times above i'm sure: It's pretty ironic how vegetarians etc use an imagined relationship with the earth to deny their basic relationship with the earth...

i'm hungry now...

edit: it may also interest the OP if not already stated that the idea that we were meant to take care of animals (because God made them) has existed much longer than the materialist view of nature: i.e: that it's ours to exploit, or that we're at the top of the food-chain etc...
could be another more valid reason for people NOT eating meat... although yeah this all changed in the 18th, 19th C with industrialisation etc etc

oh so you don't want people to feed herbivorous animals, cause you want to eat the veg yourself ? how selfish of you !

I hear djhaziel doesn't eat meat because it reminds him of which, in turn, reminds him of college.

Can anyone confirm? :)

Dude, do you even know what you are arguing against me? Read my posts... you are having an argument with someone else or something.

Yea, I'm talking more in a general sense to everybody. It's the way I post. I quote someone but address multiple people :)

Pretty much. I just said that a balanced diet is key and he quoted studies on what is clearly not a balanced diet. Awesome. Just....awesome.

Eating meat is more efficient. The way we evolved, efficiency is incredibly important/valuable to our personal success.

That's really not a good argument... the absolute most efficient way to intake protein would be by consuming humans. Additionally, efficiency in terms of protein intake is simply a measure of how quickly the protein can be used to repair damaged tissue in our bodies, the benefits of which are not established.

Elaborate.

As I stated, efficiency of protein intake is measured by how long it takes for the protein to be broken down into it's core amino acids and those acids to be reassembled as needed to repair tissue. Plant proteins tend to take the longest for this because they are incomplete, meaning that the amino acids must be taken from multiple proteins in order to be made complete. Animal proteins are more complete (some are actually complete I believe), meaning that you need to intake fewer different sources in order for them to be useable by your body; thus they are more efficient. Human tissue has all the amino acids we need in the exact quantity and arrangement that we need in order to be useful to our bodies; subsequently, they require very little time to be broken down from the source proteins and used as needed by our bodies. There are both benefits and detriments to the rapid processing of these nutrients.

If you eat a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, and grains, you will have no problem at all getting all the essential amino acids. It's a complete myth that vegetarians don't get the amino acids they need, or that they need to combine different ones at every meal.

Animal products that have high proteins are also going to have high amounts of fat and saturated fat, as well as the fact that you are probably going to be consuming too many proteins. The human body doesn't need anywhere near as many grams of protein as people assume, assumptions that are mostly due to the lovely advertising and lobbying of the meat industry.

Eating meat can be directly linked to osteoporosis, cancer, kidney disease, and heart diseases.

That's not even mentioning the lovely chemicals that are in most fish and meat products.
