The golden gate park polo field can accommodate about 100k people. If there isn't a parade, that would be a pretty good location. It requires minimal fencing, as to charge entrance fee. And they could also consider the option of doing a two-day festival, as to increase the revenue, and to lower the capacity pressure.

Wait, they are having the blue grass festival as well. Don't know if it is feasible to have two big events right next to each other.

is there even another area in the city thats bigger(not a Stadium) than the City Hall area? Golden Gate Park maybe, but is the city going to let them close of the entire park on a Saturday.

Now what happens to all the other events(Pride, etc.) that go on in the City Hall area? Is that location banned from massive public events or was this just singling out LovEvolution?

Hope they find a spot

Yeah, SF is BUILT for parades down Market Street...don't forget Chinese New Year as well. If they eliminate the parade, then will there be a class action lawsuit if other parades are held?

The parade seems the safest event out of the LovEvolution parade, festival and afterparty: Capacity issues: none. Bottlenecks due to admission fees: none. Emergency exits: Everywhere. View: Priceless.

Maybe I'm just missing something here, but I thought the parade was a sure thing?

I don't think the parade is a sure thing. I certainly don't get that impression when I read LovEvolution's official webpage. At this point, the site says very little about the parade.

If they move the festival to the Park, for example, then I wouldn't expect a parade down Market Street.

They might have a parade of some sort, but if the festival is held at a remote location, then the parade will be more remote as well and not go through the heart of the city, which would be a major loss, in my opinion.

Yeah, the Market Street Parade is the safest part of the whole thing. But the parade route must be reasonably close to the festival grounds, and so the location of the festival will determine the location of the parade (I presume).

if you didn't go to the last lovefest, then you've truly missed the end of an era. we'll know by tonight if the event is still happening, but even if it does, it will only be a shell of it's former self. i for one am not very excited even if it does. the float i enjoy the most is just not happening this year. i'm sure there will be a couple of afterparties that i'll have a blast at though.

agree. last year defined what it was. Many enjoyed it less packed and smaller - but i love seeing edm events packed like that in the open near city hall. It helps the music so much - as long as no one dies haha. So many people attended who arent even big fans of the music. It was the concept of the parade that made it. Oh well.

btw if it does happen, i'm still going to help out as much as i can and i'm still going to be there for the whole thing. i will hope for the best and support to the fullest, but i'm really not expecting it to approach the high water mark of 2009. if you thought 2009 sucked in any way at all, then i'm afraid you were hanging out in the wrong place with the wrong people.

There is still no official news on Lovevolution's website. Did I miss something?

This has dragged on way too long. They spent months trying to secure the civic center and now must secure another site in a shorter amount of time? That would seem like a hard thing to do, especially since every potential site will be heavily scrutinized by public officials.

I canceled my trip last week, about an hour after booking a flight and hotel through Travelocity. Travelocity gives full refunds if you cancel within 24 hours, something that I didn't know until I called them.

I wonder if they could keep the parade route on Market Street and then, instead of stopping at the Civic Center, the floats would simply move on to the festival site like the Polo Grounds in the Park?

They could also hire buses to bus the Lovevolution crowd to the Polo Grounds. That would be expensive, but the buses could charge a fee and so it would pay for itself.

I'm just trying to think of a way for them to keep the parade in the heart of the city while holding the festival in a remote and safe location. . . .

I don't mind the parade moving around. While there will be no more, it's what Love Parade in Germany had to do basically every year. Move around.

It's about the spirit of the event, not the actual location.

Amazing. I was reading about the tragic events at Germany's Love Parade. I knew what happened, but didn't read up on it until now.

You could argue that the dumb cops were responsible for the unfortunate deaths and injuries. It wasn't necessarily poor planning by the organizers. Instead, the cops blocked the exit/entrance, and people died. I really hope the cops face criminal charges of some sort, but they probably won't.
