Official word from LE:

Hello Lovers,

It is with huge regret we announce that we are not able to hold the day portion of our 2010 LovEvolution event this year. Love Week, with affiliated events and parties will still take place from Wednesday, September 29th to Sunday, October 3rd.

After last year's successful event, we worked for months on a plan for a parade and festival at Civic Center. Many changes were in the works that would have made the event safer and more enjoyable. Some city departments were still opposed however and we were in discussion about ways of limiting capacity at Civic Center, as over-crowding was the biggest concern. Then the tragedy occurred at LoveParade in Germany. After that weekend, we decided it would be best to seek another location.

Because of the short time for planning and the unavailability of our preferred potential venues, the parking lot of Candlestick Park was the only site available. We announced our intention to move the event to Candlestick for 2010, but were finally told that we would need to go to the Rec and Parks Commission for approval and that permission could not be acquired until two weeks before the event. As that was not enough time to properly produce an event such as ours, we decided to cancel the event for this year.

This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved. Without doubt, it has been an unprecedented summer of tragedies at large events and that has made city authorities very cautious. After five months of discussions, in the end, we decided that it would be best to re-group, reinvent and come back even better than ever next year. That is fully our intention.

Stay tuned for more information and if you've already made your travel plans to SF know that there is still TONS of fun to be had.

We will be emailing you with more info about Love Week later this week so stay tuned. In the mean time, we highly recommend you get your pre-sale tickets for the special show at the Warfield wtih Infected Mushoom, Shpongle, Hallucinogen, and more!

Keep the faith!

Well, I hope the City has the common sense to cancel all other large gatherings of people such as the Chinese New Year Parade, Gay Pride, football games, etc. It stands to reason that they are all inherently dangerous...

...Come to think of it, the airports and planes are full of people too, I don't think that I should make the trip out of irrational fear either!

I honestly think the attendance thing was a scapegoat that sold. It was really about the deaths associated wrongly to EDM.

Again, if someone died of alcohol poisoning at a cinco de mayo - should we cancel that event? What about a shooting at a rap concert? A stabbing at a rock concert? Public indecency at st. patricks day? This is crap. Though all bad... with the last one based on circumstances haha... you cant take one and lead to a causation. This isnt if X than Y. This is if X than find ways to reduce X. And if X than x is of what percentage to total. Sorry but SF - SCREW YOU!

Has anyone canceled a non-refundable flight with Southwest before? I found this information at Southwest.com:

"Did you know:

Not all reservations are refundable, but they are all reusable? Should your plans change, all of our fares can be applied to future travel on Southwest Airlines."

Not many details there, would like to know how far in advance one needs to cancel, and if the credit can be applied to any future fare (including web only specials) or only full price fares?

Southwest actually has a good policy. Some airlines charge a fee if you cancel and then you get the rest as credit.

With Southwest, if you get the cheap-o fare and cancel you at least get to use the full amount of that fare towards another flight. No restrictions from the times I've cancelled and used the credit later. Can use on any fare at any time.

Nice to hear, not 100% sure I'm canceling yet, only about 87%... Maybe 1015 will schedule something on Saturday night that I can't turn down, but so far I'd rather save the $$ and time for a more appealing weekend...and not necessarily in SF.

I checked the Lovevolution site throughout the summer; I was worried about the event due to the situation in Germany. But time after time, no update on Lovevolution's site and so I figured everything was OK. A couple of weeks ago, I booked my tickets on Travelocity for over 400.00 (coming from the East Coast).

I should have checked the Lovevolution site on the morning when I purchased my tickets. An hour after purchasing them, I checked the site and noticed the new message about the Civic Center and the uncertainty surrounding the festival's new location. I didn't like the sounds of that at all.

I then called Travelocity. I figured I was stuck with the tickets, but I don't want to fly out to the West Coast unless there is a parade AND festival. In any event, I didn't realize that you can cancel at Travelocity for a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of purchasing the tickets. That saved me.

Disappointed overall, tho' -- was really looking forward to this event. I hope they come back in 2011.
