I agree 100% with Ammora. Ultra made this mess. They broke their contract with WMC.
WMC isn't obligated to announce their dates a year in advance to you people. 4-5 months ahead of schedule is the norm and is plenty of warning. |
you sir are an idiot. The big name DJ's have their tours scheduled well in advanced and have planned for WMC to be at the end of march. |

Aren't we just the legal beagle? I assume you're privy to these contracts and that they have the teeth of enforceability? |

I hope they don't book Daft Punk, that way I won't be feeling horrible about not going. |
Forgot that they will be around the US promoting the Tron Movie and soundtrack. Frick. Hopefully they stop by NYC first. |

I don't know of any DJs with their next 6 months mapped out. 3 months? Sure. 4 months? Maybe. 6 months? Who? Care to name me some DJs who currently have their May mapped out? I honestly don't follow that many DJs, but I'd like to hear of some since apparently so many have their next 6 months locked in.
Sure, some DJs have whatever random event scheduled far in advance, but that's one show here and there. For the most part, DJs are just scheduled 3 months, maybe 4 months in advance. Which is exactly when WMC announced their dates. Any DJs or promoters who planned back in September for late March...acted way too soon. No need to lock in dates that far in advance. |

take a look at the calendar bro - March 8-12 is 3 months and 3 weeks away.
i know of some big djs already booked in Australia in early March (Ritchie Hawtin, Sven Vath) so they can't be in Miami for the early dates if they wanted to...
the really big djs do have their tours scheduled that far ahead... granted we are just talking about top 10-20 caliber guys... but they do... they might just not announce the dates publically that far ahead. |

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Festivals especially book people 6-12 months out. |

its actually less than 4 months... for a small conference i'd agree with you... but not with something this has grown to such a huge size with tens of millions of $ being spent.
why is WMC early March? because the WMC people waited too late to book the end of March at the MB convention center and now its booked by a large art fair. Why can't Ultra be in early March? because of Calle Ocho the same weekend in downtown Miami. if those 2 other events set aside their weeks way early of course the WMC people could have. |
Dude WMC was NEVER set in stone end of March, its always been up in the air on whether it'll be late Feb thru early April.
Ultra is not supposed to act independently in booking dates without WMC...its in the contract. You can keep arguing a moot point, it won't change the fact Ultra messed up.
Hopefully another festival group will get involved for the future and we can be done with this Ultra bs for good. |

WHY did they plan that way? B/C Ultra announced their dates PRIOR to WMC. They acted independently and screwed it up for EVERYONE. As soon as Ultra is announced, people just ASSUME its going to coincide with WMC b/c thats how its always been...promoters started booking when they saw Ultra dates without actually CHECKING with the real source of event planning--WMC! If you were a promoter you'd be pretty pissed...but at the same time, if you don't wait to get the facts from the source, you can't cry about it later. its the risk you take |
