general fans of EDM don't buy the badges...especially for the Ultra ticket alone. The badge doesn't get you into the pool parties, Space, Mansion, etc....which is where the majority of the people defending Ultra right now are going to be spending their money and time during the week.
People who are jumping into the industry and want to actually attend the conference, industry events, meet & greets, etc will still go during WMC week and buy the badges b/c it makes the most sense for them. Up until 5 years ago, WMC was MORE about these industry events than just going to party...not that is a bad thing we all plan a party vacation around it, but its a bit of an move to dog WMC NOW b/c they're choosing to hold their industry event when they want to...and not around a festival that does very little for the actual conference (its a CLOSING event after all...meaning END of the week when all of the conference events are done!) |
I am quite aware of what the WMC badge includes. I have been involved in the EDM scene for the past 11 years. For those who are new to the whole WMC experience the draw of being able to attend the actual conference with the added bonus of having the ticket or tickets to ultra has been discussed on this board for years. Whether people decided to attend ultra or sell the ticket it was an added vale of buying the badge. Yes, the average EDM fans don't buy the badge and just come for the parties. But the serious enthusiasts do. It was really a win win. With out the ultra ticket being included with the badge this year I think WMC will be effected. I am not on one side or the other, I am a lover of the music and the scene. Plus I live in Miami so I am free to attend all of it without any problem. I guess in June when all the WMC folk are no longer even checking in on this board, we can actually discuss the effects that this years change of events really had. Till then, this is all back an forth nonsense. |

Like I said, the random event here and there gets booked ~6 months out. A year out though? Exaggerate to prove a point much? I'm sure some DJs circle dates that coincide with special events (Ultra/Trance Energy/etc.) a year out, but they don't get officially booked until much closer to the date in time.
DJs and promoters should have kept their March open until they heard something official if they wanted to do WMC, bottom line. Or maybe by Late November-Early December they could have started making their March plans if they hadn't heard anything from WMC yet. Because 3-4 months is very normal to start making plans. 6 months...very rare. 12 months...lol. |
well i got i an example for you for a dj with dates booked the next 12 months through December 2011 :)

Doesnt seem like it, it seem not many dj's are planning to be there during WMC, but are choosing Ultra week, because thats when it usually happens. |
This comment is just not accurate. there is 90 days until WMC. Parties are never announced until the end of January and beginning of February with the majority of parties being released early March. |

Tiesto...seriously? you're gonna use that commercialized circle-jerk-show as an example? not to mention Tiesto in Concert is treated AS A CONCERT in traditional concert venues that bands, pop stars, etc also use...of course those venues will be booked early!
this is such a dumb argument.
we NEVER find out DJ's and lineups for parties during WMC this early... |

While I do agree that Tiesto in Vegas is a bad example.
I do think we will see party annoucemets earlier this year than in previous years.
It was easy to keep hush about things before with everything happening in the same week. |

No more buying tix to one party and then another party which you would rather go to, getting announced at the same day/time. DOH! |

I think there are probably alot of people in my position. I get one significant vacation a year so I want to make it count. Usually that's to go to Miami to get an early jump on summer and enjoy tons of beats and good people. There's nothing like it in the world, but with the split this year, and all the drama unfolding; I might as well change it up and go somewhere else...
I'm thinking any one of several European destinations this year, I mean why not, it's pretty much the same money anyway... |
