WMC messed up and they will pay the price. I am going to Miami for electronic music so I will be going last weekend. I am not going to Miami for gay pride or latino pride. If I was going for either of the last two I would go the second week.

didn't miss that, but Miami is a LARGE city capable of holding several events at once...as they do MANY other times throughout the year with no problems...
Food & Wine event was held same week as Bike Week a few years ago, no one flipped their over it like you are.
and pride week has overlapped in the past as well, you're just too busy fist-pumping at Space to notice.

Ultra is what you make of it. If you have a negative personality and negative outlook on it than yeah it'll suck. I've personally lived in 4 different countries, traveled to many more. ULTRA was one of the best experiences I've ever witnessed. I've been djing for 11 years, probably played at some of your favorite clubs, going to shows even longer. my routes are so cal, been to all the massives (I'm not bragging just validating my opinion)... When I went to Ultra I met MANY wonderful people from all over the world. I was mostly in the Ibiza tent and I didn't run into any dumb ass kids as I would at an edc or monster massive. I dont care about getting a little dirty to see an artist I have yet to see or someone I have seen and KNOW they'll tear up. I think an edc is dirtier than an ultra, or monster massive is dirtier than an ultra. After an edc or monster massive or nocturnal or even a TAO all my is dirty, gunk all over the floor, after ultra my shoes may be dirty but for Swedish House Mafia I'll do anything. It seems most people complaining about Ultra are just finding reasons to complain about it. As far as price, save... Ever heard of the rate of inflation? I was pissed when I missed out on the first batch but oh well. If I am spending over a thousand dollars to get there whats an extra hundred bucks? To call someone a dumbass for complementing a gathering of the Worlds most elite artists dumb, well I think it's clearly a biased opinion that holds no valditity.

I hate douche bags but I still have to go to the store to buy groceries. I defend the music of ULTRA but don't have any standings with the people who throw it.

ONE SIMPLE RESPONSE TO ALL OF THIS.
if it weren't for WMC promoting Ultra and supporting its growth in partnership over the years, THERE WOULD BE NO ULTRA. you wouldn't have met the people you met that came, not for Ultra, but for the entire week of events. the only reason Ultra GETS the DJ's they do is b/c they could also work at other clubs and do industry meetings throughout the week...that was the point of WMC! Its not a biased opinion at all...for those of us who have supported WMC for years, its a disgusting display of greed and exploitation on Ultra's part...

then go to your panels, go see the awards and stop hating. Your clearly missing the point... I'll go to Ultra, celebrate all he awesome shows, like beatport, roger sanchez's release yourself @ mansion and steve angellos size matters @ surfcomber. Its obvious all djs who book events during normal wmc time got no info on their idiotic idea to put wmc in the beginning. When you got world class artists booking events like steve angello, grammy award winner roger sanchez and the only dj to win #1 status 4 times on dj poll booking events in the last week of march... Doesnt it seem kinda odd their ALL pissed at wmc and NOT Ultra? Once wmc announced the dates all hell broke loose. So I can care less on your theories in all respect, I'll follow the acts that I've spent over a decade following and being inspired and have a blast end of march. As Steve Angello says.. "END OF STORY!!!" And from the heart I hope you have fun. But from all the World class djs and producers this is clearly a WMC FAIL! If it was just some bs blog rumor I would be content with my view. But its evident that WMC shockedwho we pay to see, Ultra didn't.

While I don't have any affliation or connection to either WMC the actual conference or Ultra I do think that it is a bunch of adults acting like children.

Why did WMC wait until the middle of November to annouce the change? Why not give people a bigger head's up.

Part of what makes Miami so amazing is the dynamic mix of people of all walks of life. I love sharing the city with thousands of other EDM fan.

Do either option sound totally appealing to me not really.. stuck up industry parties vs. Ultra. That is the beauty of them being together you get a nice mix of everything.

Louis Puig is the one who comes out sounding like a greedy f*ck. Calling Ultra expensive at $175 for the weekend and 100s of artists when that is the enterance to his club in the AM hours.

Not to be in any way in defense of Ultra but their press release sounds the most legit and reasonsable of the 2.

The weekend I chose to go is based solely on Get Lost and that has been set for March 26.

I do feel bad for people who have never been and make this the first year that they go.

Just a reminder of how many DJs are gonna be in town for Ultra - Look at the lineup from last year. This year there will presumably more names since there are 3 days. I also saw a bunch of these guys at pool/club parties. And you know Techno is gonna be repped at the parties cause of the GET LOST guys will be there. Not sure how WMC can compete.

where is the 'lets have a civilized argument about this' smile when you need one :)

Ultra actually helps make the WMC guys more $. the WMC guys said this week that without being able to offer free Ultra tickets and/or having it a difference week that they would have 25% less attendees to the actual conference...

so Ultra actually help contribute 25% of the gross revenue of the WMC event...

next year will be the 12th Ultra.... of course they owe their existence to the WMC, but I think at some point you gotta say they they have paid their dues by making millions of $ for the actual WMC people in terms of conference signups they would have not gotten otherwise! Are you saying they they have to defer to the WMC forever? I don't think most people would say that's fair...

Agreed.

I'm pumped that Ultra is NOT the same week as WMC. Ultra. I could care less. WMC will be better without it.

Doesnt seem like it, it seem not many dj's are planning to be there during WMC, but are choosing Ultra week, because thats when it usually happens.

Congrats on being the first one to bring this point up. That was always a positive draw for buying the badge. It has been discussed here numerous times.

ITS TOO FREAKING EARLY TO DETERMINE THIS, everyone just chill the heck out...until you work for a promoter or have wiped the asses of the DJs you claim to know tons about, give it a rest!
the FEW DJ's that have come forward to stick with their original plan of end of the month parties are just that, FEW. there will be tons and tons more for you to overplan your week with soon...relax!

general fans of EDM don't buy the badges...especially for the Ultra ticket alone. The badge doesn't get you into the pool parties, Space, Mansion, etc....which is where the majority of the people defending Ultra right now are going to be spending their money and time during the week.
People who are jumping into the industry and want to actually attend the conference, industry events, meet & greets, etc will still go during WMC week and buy the badges b/c it makes the most sense for them. Up until 5 years ago, WMC was MORE about these industry events than just going to party...not that is a bad thing we all plan a party vacation around it, but its a bit of an move to dog WMC NOW b/c they're choosing to hold their industry event when they want to...and not around a festival that does very little for the actual conference (its a CLOSING event after all...meaning END of the week when all of the conference events are done!)

I just hope Sven Vath comes to the Circus party during Ultra Week aka WMC 2. Timewarp isn't until April so there's a pretty good chance :eyespop:
