| I only go to MSG for concerts. I don't think that is going to change anytime soon. |

Because you liked that, you REALLY should check out
KMFDM
(as in my "Amnesia" ("ARRGH" T) from back when)
when they're at Irving Plaza on 3/21.
Last time around, the manager had let the (non-working) employees in for free, because he is a big KMFDM fan, and one of them mentioned to me, that they had never seen a real mosh-pit form (as you describe for Y-Stad) at I-Plaza (ditto me personally).
You must be familiar with some of their stuff, no?
BTW, the mosh-pits at Rammstein (N.C.Col / Wells Fargo) last year were pretty f-ed up too, with an epic performance and production no need to say.
(and NO, I don't mosh, I get the off to the edge, but I really do think it's worth seeing someone who overdoes it in the face of a biker-girl getting the whacked out of em for being to stupid)

whole US spring tour dates at:
www.kmfdm.net/tour/
maybe one of the other dates fits your schedule...
Don't know what the focus of this tour will be, certainly expect amnesia, but always looking for the old stuff (would love a Bargeld or Sex on the Flag...).
Also don't know if they'll do "side project" covers.
no matter they come I go |

so back to the question(s) at hand:
Did SHM in the stands (section 118, about 15-20 rows above the floor).
Aisle seat, which was the key to being a good experience.
The ushers were ok, not too much shooshing into seats, so overall, being in 1st tier was not too terrible.
But the general dance-mood there, looking around, was by far more subdued than on the floor, and you just can't get that within-the-pit feeling in seats...
(thank god for the girl across the aisle who used the stairs for some serious dancing)
So, on balance, not the buzz-kill (unlike the inane, lets all sit down and get up banter crap), but like the others above, would prob. not want to go if not pit, or at least a low-down aisle seat much closer to the stage, esp., considering the line-up to be expected and the pricing.
Sensation: also agree with the comment above, never bothered to wait in the get-to-floor line.
Found a spot just to the right of the central-side VIP raised area, just about eye-level with the DJs.
That was good, esp. because that stage-thing-flower was blocking all the good sightlines from the floor.
Do you guys remember if the WHOLE floor was GA-pit for SHM, or just the front-half?
It was the latter at Rammstein, and LCD-Soundsystem, was on floor, but behind the walkway in the middle (the seated rows ahead of sound-board).
Great for the sound and visuals, but being so far back, a little harder to take in (when you see footage later on, it's like: "that happened?"). Plus the ushers there were a bitch. I finally begged an usher I've known for years who is usually in that area to calm the one being a torment-pita, and then it got better.
So, if they do a GA pit, I do hope it's the whole floor, not just the front-half (the back floor sections are almost fraudulently called floor, they're really risers behind the soundboard, waste of money, unless used as a spring-board to get further up.
Can you dance anywhere in MSG, meaning in the seat rows? Of course, that's what people did for years before they started having a pit.
But pit is def. the way to go....
I think the main beef with arenas is that they just are too spacious where it isn't useful at all (above people's heads) and that doesn't help with the atmosphere.
Stage in-the-round, like Sensation would help too, esp. if not so tall, and even permit more tix to be sold than with the end stage set up.
just some musings.... |

I was on the floor/pit for SHM and yes, it was only the front half.
I remember being confused about what the back floor seats were all about. I didnt know if it was VIP or what. But yeah if I remember correctly it was barricaded off and I think there were seats. There was so much wasted space on the floor of MSG I remember. Total opposite compared to Barclays where they packed it in a bunch. Between the barricades and retarded seated back section of the floor, the actual standing room area was pretty small....like 500 people maybe?
They should have just did one of the ing piers. MSG just has that corporate feel to it. I mean don't get me wrong, I had a blast on the floor for SHM, but its stupid the good seats in that place is only for like 5% of the crowd. You know those tickets are gonna be super hard to get. Much better vibe when everyone is GA and vining together. |

since SHM got the mention here, and the garden will def. mean an early close, maybe we can get a good afterparty ?
that would follow the SHM mold as well, and might be the ticket of choice if it comes about.
not the ridiculous resale price paid though, embarrassing. did go close to 8...
any of the fessed-up SHM posters do the roseland a-p? |

Yeah I was wondering about an after party as well. That might be the better bet but you know they won't announce that anytime soon. |
