Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.87
hmmmm i'd really like to compare this with my previous results, grrr where is that thread!
There are a few dodgy questions though, like this one for example:
"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."
As against one party states as i am i still have to concede that this IS an advantage because it removes some of the bureaucratical bull associated with multiparty states.
haha @ the Faqs, "this is almost exclusively an american response" :p |

true, however a party with a clear majority is not dissimilar from a 1 party governement really. i mean, its not like howard discusses things over with kim before making decisions. id guess thered be plenty of internal debate in the chinese ruling party. but thats just a guess.

We have the upper, lower houses and the senate fortunately; not that that means much after the last election. You make a good point with the Chinese ruling party, but isn't the Chinese President a servant of the citizens in that great peoples republic of theirs? :p
If you look behind the horrible human rights abuses in dictatorial regimes like Pinochet of Chile for example, you'll see that he was able to make sweeping economic reforms through the deregulation and privatisation of the public sector which would not have happened if he was democratically elected over Allende's socialist government. Chile now enjoys the best economy in South America, whether or not that justifies his regime is moot.

Politics have moved, but you're still using the old economic parameters.
Some critics have argued that, because the universal political centre has moved to the right, our axes should correspondingly move to the right. This, however, would not indicate how far one way or the other society has shifted. |
It's interesting that most western countries have been moving to the right for the past few years while South America is becoming increasingly leftist

So far I'm up to 83 slides and could still write more
We're talking about 60-90 minutes worth of speech here:( :(
