Hey everybody! I was just reading the thread on the entertainment vs. condos fiasco and wanted to create and account and chime in...

A close friend of mine told me that riot police busted into Republik last Saturday and caused some serious . I was supposed to my buddy there, but luckily, I didn't end up being able to get downtown. Apparently people as well as bouncers were injured by the police and guns were drawn? What the hell?! Does anybody know anything about this? I am blown away that I haven't read anything about this. Can anybody expand on this issue? Were there charges? I'm totally in shock over what's going on in this city these days.

I guess the cops didn't realize that Metro was across the street? (lol).

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering why they didn't arrest this guy earlier in the night if there were suspicions? Why do it when the club is packed with patrons? I heard that many patrons were thrown to the ground with guns in their faces and some guy even got tazered! It seems like pretty excessive force given such a modest drug charge. I guess I can't really pull from the experience since I was not actually there. Was anybody around to witness this?

Toronto nightclub workers charged with drug trafficking
Last Updated: Monday, July 30, 2007 | 2:57 PM ET
CBC News
A manager and an employee of the Republik Lounge on Richmond Street W. have been charged with selling cocaine, Toronto police said Monday.

Manager Daniel Park, 38, is charged with three counts of trafficking cocaine and with cocaine possession. Pouria Samaeipour, 26, of Markham, who works at the club, has been charged with trafficking in cocaine, Toronto police said in a news release Monday.

The arrests were made after police executed a search warrant at the entertainment district club at 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

Here is the "official" story

Now here is my opinion of what the real story is.

At about 1:15 am on Sarturday the police executed a search warrant looking for an individual that they allege was selling drugs. They raided the club, about 100 of them. Many of them allegedly entered the VIP area with their guns drawn. ETF was there in helmets and full armour.

I was downstairs at the time and saw the ETF enter. However I was not upstairs where all the commotion allegedly took place.

Apprently, the sound guy upstairs had a gun pointed in his face. Also, apprently the guns were drawn and everyone was ordered to the ground. Allegedly, customers were tazered and beaten with the ends of rifle butts. Apparently, a lot of people ended up going to the hospital. It is alleged that police threw a couple of waitresses to the ground and held them by their throat with their boots. One waitress had multiple cuts to her legs. Security offered NO resistance and was allegedly injured by the police.

All this to allegedly find less than an ounce of drugs. Charges of that even have yet to be proven. And in my opinion, is just a scape goat for the real cause.

It is my opinion that the police acted completely irresponsibly and apparently injured a lot of patrons and employees to send a message to clubland that we are no longer welcome. Alot of people are still in shock and are absolutely disgusted.

Its interesting that none of this has appeared in the media.

This city is in BIG BIG trouble folks

Blackness (KKEFKA) was there when this happened last Saturday night, before he came to Guv.

He said they just barged in. Eventually they all headed up into the VIP section apparently and told the rest of the club that there was nothign to worry about.

Jay said their guns were drawn too.

Wow, this sounds really scary. I have never been to Repuplik and most likely will not go. I can't believe police acted this way.

it has NOTHING to do with republik. I fear that this is the beginning of the way of life for all of clubland. This should concern anyone who enjoys a fun night out.

It absolutely sickens me.

I'm sorry. Maybe I stand alone here, but if I am out on a Saturday evening as a patron and I get a gun pointed in my face for no reason whatsoever or injured by the police, there are going to be severe reprocussions such actions against me.

This happens in a packed club and nobody has any complaints? Nobody sees anything? What the hell is wrong with people these days? Just because a few people have a label that says "Police" on their uniform, doesn't mean that they can do whatever the hell they want to people. This is disturbing.

The story is obviously being blown way out of proportion here. A few ounces of cocaine takes 100 Riot police to acquire? Come on. Sounds like the kind of thing you would do to guarentee that an action gets noticed in the media. I call bull.
