Clubland will always exist downtown, but with pricey condos going up, you can bet the city and its police force have a mandate to make it as safe and appealing a neighbourhood as possible for those affluent folks (ie no guns, drugs, drunken revellers on the street, etc). The whole notion that the city wants to "do away with clubs altogether" is ludicrous, although I am not surprised to see that blanket, baseless statement given my brief experience with the statement-maker on TA. Where's my techno? :clown: |

A late-night entertainment-district bar that bills itself as "Toronto's most technologically advanced nightclub" offered more than loud music and elaborate light shows, police allege.
Early Sunday morning, officers armed with a search warrant descended on the Republik Lounge on Richmond Street West, arrested its corporate manager and an employee and charged both with trafficking in cocaine.
The arrests followed a short undercover operation aimed at the nightclub.
The two charged men - 38-year-old club manager Daniel Park of Toronto and 26-year-old Pouria Samaeipour of Markham - appeared in court at Old City Hall Sunday and yesterday for bail hearings.
"This was part of an ongoing effort by this [52] Division to bring the club district under control," Superintendent Hugh Ferguson said.
"It's a question of getting the right information at the right time and jumping on it, and in this case we were successful. ... We got everybody we were looking for. Hopefully, it sends a message." |

Two employees of the Republik Lounge, a nightclub located in the middle of the city's Entertainment District, have been charged with drug trafficking.
Police executed a search warrant at the club around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. They had been investigating the club, on Richmond St. W. at John St., for some time.
Toronto resident Daniel Park, the bar's 38-year-old corporate manager, was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine.
Pouria Samaeipour, 26, of Markham is also an employee and was arrested and charged with one count of trafficking cocaine. |
