Mercedes Benz has finally revealed the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. This new Mercedes will be their most powerful production car ever. With the double-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 under the hood, power output is 661 HP and 738 ft-lb torque!!!. Priced in the range of $320,000, the SL65 AMG Black Series is an indirect replacement for the McLaren SLR coupe. So don’t expect to find one easily.
Expect a limited run of 350 over a 12-month period. However 200 of them are slotted to hit U.S. so there’s at least a good chance of seeing one of these amazing yet beautiful monsters!
Based on the recently face-lifted SL65 AMG, the new car receives upgrades that provide it with an aggressive new look but, (via a whole lot of carbon fiber) an impressive 551-pound reduction in weight at 4,123 pounds. Among some of the more significant changes are a fixed roof structure in place of the folding aluminum hardtop on the standard model and a retractable rear spoiler (Porsche Carrera GT Style) has also been added to improve downforce.
Their new masterpiece is a tuned version of the already amazing SL65 AMG’s twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12. It receives larger turbochargers, a more efficient intercooler and modified exhausts to boost output by 57 hp to 670 hp. Torque remains at 737 ft-lb, a figure Mercedes-Benz says is limited from a theoretical peak of 885 lb-ft in a bid to safeguard the car’s five-speed automatic transmission and other driveline components.
Mercedes-Benz claims the SL65 AMG Black Series will rip from ZERO to 60 mph in “less than 3.9 seconds” and reach a top speed limited to 199 mph.

While many green gear-heads argue whether electric vehicles are better than hybrids, Slovak designer Matúš Procháczka has brought the debate one step further. His innovative concept car foregoes these trifling 21st century technologies and fast-forwards straight to the future. Instead of an internal combustion engine, his vehicle is driven by an electric engine that generates a magnetic field capable of propelling the vehicle down the road!
Caveat first: the MAG car would require that all automotive infrastructure be magnetized in order for it to work, a task well-neigh impossible for any large-scale implementation. However such a system would tremendously reduce the energy required to propel the car, as it’s electromagnetic motor would be calibrated to reduce the car’s weight by 50%. The seats are created by two fabric nets which are adjustable to suit the occupant, and consume a minimum of materials.
The winner of the Unseen Technology Award at the Interior Motives Design Award 2007, the MAG is an extremely futuristic vehicle that requires technologies that are far away from being developed and deployed.
