Alright, it's pretty much down to the 350Z and S2000.
My dad was in the business for 20 years, so he has all kinds of friends still doing car stuff. As one of his friends has done for our family a few times before, we give him guidelines of what we want and give him some coinage for his trouble and he watches the auction for us while he buys cars for his own biz.
So I've got him looking for any manual 350Zs with under 100k kms, and the same with S2000s, but '04+ (having driven both AP1 and AP2s, the AP2 is just much more liveable day-to-day with the torque increase).
Only thing with this situation is that it could be a few months before a suitable vehicle comes through, and I won't get to choose the colour. Not that I care, really. I'm saving quite a bit of money doing it this way as the car will only cost me $400 over wholesale

Personally I like the ap2 better.
better looking, more torque, fixed the gear issue, and has a little more go.
The only downside is you lose the 9000rpm redline. However, you won't notice much of a difference between either or.
and owning one, they are a lot more fun to drive. and I wouldnt go near a 350z.

Okay clearly you're biased, but what's wrong with the 350Z in your mind?
mdiddy
No I'm not biased, I've just researched this to death.
350z interior quality is awful, cheap plastic and cheap production.
the clutch/gearbox makes shifting actually a workout.
Great sound.
fuel economy is not as good, reliability is not as good, and to each their own but it's not exactly the prettiest either.
performance over the years (especially with the new 370z) has improved.
With honda its been the same for the past 7 years (minus the CR).
As far as the crossfire, z4 and clk - neither are as good as the s2000, TT, and boxster.

Ahh, valid points. Yeah, the interior isn't as well put-together as an S2000 but it shouldn't have been a $50,000 car here to begin with. $28k gets a brand new one in the US, which is more in line with the vehicle, IMHO.
As for the transmission, it is worlds better than the manual I'm used to rowing through, an '00 Mustang. That is like stirring a bucket full of rocks with a straw.
The reliability part doesn't scare me much, and fuel economy is a moot point to me.
Here's my buddy's last S2000, an '07 in imola orange pearl. 1 of 34 in Canada, apparently. Sold it a few months back. Goddamn this thing was fun to ride around in, and it's what pushed the S2000 more into my mind as a new car.
I plan on driving whichever vehicle I get year-round, and I worry a little about the droptop on the S2000. Though, the aforementioned friend drove his old '04 through 2 winters without issue.

as long as the car is equipped with snow tires and the driver is actually being responsible - winter is nothing for the s2000.

Not a big fan of the colour or wing. I know its factory but it looks riced out. Again...I am not taking anything away from that car but thats just my opinion.
Also...you just cant beat Honda reliability. S2000 over 350Z anyday...anywhere...anytime

Which was the first year they had traction control? '05 or '06, or other?
