You should check out autocross for some fun, entry-level racing. It's low cost and low car abuse. I had a blast doing it in my old MX5

Its fun (but doesn't compare to an open track). You should definitely go autocross a few times before going out to a full-speed track.
However, its still abuse for your car, you'll be redlining in first and pushing hard in second often. |
