OK now that sasha has had a chance to profit from an Eraser remix, can the stretch & vern and other remixes of that song finally be released? :whip:

Could that song be laid to rest for a while, in all honesty?

I really, really wanted to like this. After listening to the samples, I thought "Huh, well, I like a fair bit of this - maybe it will all come together." And especially given DOOMBOT's (caps just for you, Ted) inevitable entry into this thread to jump on whatever review I'd give - I wanted to try and give this the most honest and fair shot I could.

In the end I'm sad to say that all the concerns I had over this appeared over and over and over again. This is about as soulless a mixed set as I have ever heard, littered with so much white noise and boring, plodding nonsense that it was hard for me to find many redeeming qualities at all.

The intro is indeed quite nice, and the way the first 10 minutes or so flows sounded like it could set up an outstanding set, and definitely got me quite excited for what was to come - I thought the intro and then the TTA tune were quite complimentary. But as with just about everyone else, I just found the basically everything in the "meat" section an absolute bore.

Not only was it a bore, but by what I can only assume is a one in a million shot, "Arcadia" and "Destroy Everything you Touch" were somehow made into shells of their former selves. "Coleurs" may have saved it if it didn't have the (albeit brief) sample from "the Eraser" needlessly placed over it.

"Sometimes I realize" was immense - but on its own terms. It was not good because it was in this set.

In the end this felt about as dry and boring as the bulk of Sasha sets I've seen him play the past few years (WMC '06 @ Glass not withstanding). It really felt like the nail in the coffin for Sasha - and though you'll never hear me deny his influence on me over the years, sadly he just no longer seems to resonate with me.

really to lazy to type up a review atm, but this won't be getting played again by me.

Not surprising in all honesty. didn't have high expecations for this as his last two efforts were e. Sashacorp strikes again so it seems. Sad, but honestly, the allure and mysticism of Sasha disappeared a long time ago when he was part of the underground, not pushing what the common consumer thinks the underground is.

Completely agree with all the poor comments. I gave it another listen today and it's rather weak. Sad to say, his EM for BBC Radio 1 this week was more enjoyable to listen to.

On the plus side, the Engineer track is in my top 5 for the year.

I can't understand why you try to compare it to an EM or Avalon. It's a studio album, and production wise it's ing solid.

:conf:

We all know Sasha can handle the technical aspect in the studio, but it's the sound of the album people have been referring to which they don't like.

Because it is mix compilations put forth by the same person. No matter how different the concept is, the end result is him trying to put forth a good depiction of his musical tastes and efforts. This just wasn't that good and there have been other sets by him, even recently to some people, that are better than this effort.

Just listened to it the second time on the way to work today. Sick sick cd. I'd give it an 8 out of 10, with 10 being the Howells Essential Mix and 1 being Soulja Boy.

Track at 30 minutes is so hypnotic. Luff it.

Do you just mean technically it's solid? Or that the sound quality is just solid?

:conf:

As a mixed set, this is just piss poor, and the only reason it's being compared to EM, Avalon, Fundacion: NYC, Involver, GU:009, etc. is because all of those are also Sasha sets. I really don't see how comparing them all is wrong.
DOOMBOT
Loved every second of it. Destroy Everything You Touch is an absolute bomb!
