You are a far more patient man than I.

Every time a thread like this starts the only thought that crosses my mind is "here we go again."

I should also point out that I enjoy these because they also make me examin my own faith, which is the only way to strengthen it or truly appreciate it.

I inevitably enter these threads and feel as though I need to correct incorrect assumptions about both Christians in general, and in particular, Catholics. The problem, for me, is that right now I'm at a point where I'm still not sure what metaphysical position it is I have faith in, and so in turn it feels like after a while I'm just treading water fighting for the other team until I can figure out what it is I believe.

My mom works for a “faith based Christian” firm. What a crock of ing . Biggest bunch of Calvary Chapel phonies. They’re greedy, they lie, one of the attorneys is ing his secretary and everyone knows (they’re both married). My mom’s been there for over 5 years and she has a lot of pull there and makes great money so she stays, but some of the stories she tells me piss me off. I can’t stand any of those people…walking around acting like they’re such good Christian people. It makes me sick.

During Hurricane Katrina time, they didn't pay all of the employees for the time that no one worked. They only paid a few (my mom was thankfully included), but my mom later found out they collected all the insurance money to cover everyone's salaries, but they didn't pay everyone and pocketed it.

- that was a really bad analogy. :(

If a persons faith is strong enough, i dont think he/she needs to teach anyone or prove to anyone why he/she is practicing his/her faith.

You need to adjust how you view these threads. You're a critical thinker, so use that in examining the positions of others as well as your own. Seeking to clear up misunderstanding will not only help the readers of your posts but you as well. Additionally, use these threads and an opportunity to pose the questions you have, hopefully someone will be able to provide some insight.

Rob, if you're really in a position where you are trying to figure out what it is you believe, I can relate. I spent many years in that position and, subsequently, developing my beliefs. My recommendation is that you explore as many belief systems as you can. I further recommend that you not limit your exploration to simply reading philosophical or religious texts; rather, take some time and make appointments to speak with faith leaders and philosophy professors. You'll find that such people will be happy to meet with you and will likely provide invaluable insight and context to the source material.

Nail on the head. Been sitting on this plateau for a few years now and still find myself pretty confused.

I've enjoyed learning as much as I can and engaging my professors and my families Pastor about religious and metaphysical issues, but I'm almost always left with more questions than any real answers - and have honestly resigned myself to find happiness in the questions rather than trying to attain that which is unattainable.

yea i'm not really big on unanswered questions my entire life and blind faith.

Beats and Beeps said the the funniest ever last night on MSN.

He measured his dick with a tape measure, and then said it was my turn to measure my vagina. I laughed and he was like, "I'm serious, get out the yard stick."

LMFAO, ing brilliant.
