yep, and it's coming from all sides at this point. Lowest common denominator in full effect. [sigh]

And then people wonder why most people just stick with whatever beliefs those around them subscribe to (including Atheism). Everyone's so busy trying to prove their own views to be correct that people wind up taking sides far too early on, and the few that don't, stay away from the debate (and, thus, each other) entirely. Until someone can prove what in all of this is right/wrong/true/false, I don't see how anybody can be so adamant about supporting one side that they forbid anyone else from making up their own minds.

The thing is, in this debate, one side is far more vociferous than the other in spreading its opinion.

At least, I've never heard of Atheist Missionaries or Atheists blowing up churches.

Some of us are not adamant about it at all. We try to be funny about it. But then some people become offended because we do not live up to their standards for how a serious discussion upon the subject SHOULD proceed. I have this funny feeling that you've not quite realized the full scope of this concept quite yet...

I'd say that there are both reasonable and unreasonable people on every side, and that there isn't one that's particularly more aggressive out at the extremes than any other. There are "Christians" who say that everyone else is going to hell, there are "Muslims" who feel that all others are infidels and that all Jews deserve to die, there are Atheists who feel that no one else should be allowed to practice religion and that all religious people are mentally incompetent, & so on. There are also perfectly rational people with all different sorts of beliefs.

Yes, there are some who aren't adamant about it at all, but both the 'humorous' version & the serious one start with the premise that the other side is completely wrong, beyond the point where it can even be respected. Some are lashing out in anger, others are sitting back & mocking. They're just two different ways to express the same intolerance.

I reckon you'd have to be taking the piss really to stumble into an electronic music forum and start bagging on gays, dykes, confused, drug users and as of yet we're still waiting on the connection between eternal damnation and glowsticks (but I'm sure it exists and I don't even believe in god :p)
It's kind of like one of our TA boys wandering into a football club and yelling out at the top of your lungs "You're all a bunch of Nancys!"
Once it might be funny
Twice the moment is fading
Three times and you're just asking for a toeing.

Note carefully, it's no longer funny, get a new gig

The point I was trying to make is, Christianity is largely incorporated into our society, atheism is not. The "debate" if there even is one, is clearly skewed.

You're being intolerant of my intolerance. This is intolerable.

Seriously though, true 'tolerance'(if it exists) lies in complete lack of all communication. I don't think I could tolerate that.
