Well this wouldn't truly be a thread on religion if it didn't contain at least one incident of mistaken commentary!

To be honest, I find you to be generally one of the more insightful individuals on this forum. Unfortunately, the initial aim of this thread wasn't anywhere near intelligent religious discourse, and some (not all) of the subsequent replies were laughable at best.

I'm all for objective analysis of religion - I'm not for people stirring just because in their profound ignorance they think it's funny.

You've assumed that

1. All Christians are Catholics
2. All Christians take every word of the Bible as gospel
3. God doesn't exist

The first two are not true, and the third cannot be proven to be either true or false, yet you've used that as your basis for labeling a group of people 'delusional' and suggesting that they belong in asylums.

1. either way, there exitst people who believe in the holy trinity
2. imo, if you dont you are not a christian but a free thinker - agnostic - whatever. You may have many cristain traits but you have picked and chosen what you like out of the bible and dismissed the rest as worthless.
3. If someone is going to start talking about a God as we know it, there better be a reason to suggest its existance. I've never seen a reason myself. However, many people like to believe in a fatherless man who preformed miracles to provide a reason to suggest a God. If you believe this nonsense, all the crap shoved down your throat by you parents, parents friends, church leaders, etc I would say you are either A)delusional or B)brainwashed

I just hate the way that non-religious people take such a high and mighty stance on the issue as to say "No you're stupid, we're right, you're wrong. I can't believe that in the 21st century you still believe in that crap. How can you see it's not true" and then go on to blame religious people for everything.

Sure, religious people do the same thing but only the extremists and they are the vocal ones. You don't see the majority of them ramming their beliefs down people's throats. If people ask, they will tell them and if not, so be it.

We don't need to be told how stupid we are and how our beliefs have ruined everything. If you want religious people (the majority who are more than happy to go on with their normal days) to act normally and not ram their beliefs down your throats, then we don't need to hear your new age beliefs either. Just because you cannot fathom their being "something" out there, doesn't make your "belief" (and that's what it is, a belief) any more valid than a religious persons.

Religious beliefs are being rammmed down every americans throat whether the want it or not. Policies and laws are being created based on christain beliefs. 2 very good examples
A) Abortion is under heavy fire
B) Terri Schiavo's national ordeal
Marc Summers
The majority of Christians don't live as true Christians. Gandhi was more Christian, and he was a Hindu.

Living as a Christian is harder than most people think. One would have to give up a lot of things, which most cannot do.

today we ask christians questions that stump them (or us) without trying to prove their religion wrong (cuz thats easy).

so i know they say that if a child dies when it is a baby...it goes to heaven, but what about someone who is old and senile?

I've also heard that really disabled people go to heaven automatically too, if they have little or no will of their own.

What if you are old and senile? What if you are too crazy to repent? What if you get alzeimers(sp) and forget what christ is? I suppose if you have already accepted him into your heart blah blah blah.

ok but what if a christan goes insane when they are 70, and rape and murder their great great grandson and die upon ejaculation.

do they go to heaven?

You forgot to ask whether Armin Van Buuren will still get to go to Heaven after all the sins he's committed against humanity. I wonder if he repents after every show...

Hooray for religious intolerance and patently wrong assumptions, right guys!!

sorry, you havent satisfied me as to why religious belief is deserving of inherent tolerance? this is one of those assumptions that theists seem to take as a given. but no other belief system receives such automatic "respected" status, so why does religion deserve it without having to defend its position from potential criticism like any other "ism"?
