Volkswagen dealerships are staffed by s.

"I'd like to check out the new GTIs..."
"You sure you can afford one of those? Hah hah!"
*blank stare*

Walked out of two different dealerships. I realize not all are like this but the horror stories about VW dealerships that all over the internet have soured me completely.

Wasn't Subaru in the market already in the 1980's?
Toyota did have a small percentage to technical problems that the engineers thought would develop with Corolla models 07'.
According to your statement, are you implying that Japanese manufactures aren't splendid?

I never said Japanese cars are not good.
lol @ small percentage. Their Toyota Tundra was one of the biggest recalls in automotive history. The toyota corolla recall was regarding the defective bolts in the power window system. lol... and since you mentioned "small issues", the Toyota Tundra problem was with failing of brake lines since it had a dual exhaust and one of the exhaust pipes was rubbing against the brake line. Seems kinda big..

I personally would rather support the economy where I live and buy a Ford just because GM and Chrysler really aren't an option I suppose temporarily. But, Mazda, and Subaru, have lot of Cross-holdings and have major American owners usually.

You know that Corollas, Civics, Accords, Camrys, etc. are all built in North America, right? I have quite a few friends that build Corollas and Matrixes and RX350s here in my city at the Toyota plant.
JoyRyde
Yeah, Cambridge plan and Cami Automotive build tons of them. But most are just ASSEMBLED in Canada and US.
Like I mentioned though. most of these companies have cross holdings so it really doesn't matter I suppose.
For example:
Toyota corolla / Chevy prism - Same Engine, Same Transmission. It's a major cross venture with GM and Toyota.

Toyota Matrix / Pontiac vibe - Same Engine Same Transmission. Built in Same plant. Another major cross venture.

It's funny cause a year back when I was in the market to buy a car, a car salesman told me at Toyota that the competition to Matrix, the Pontiac Vibe, although cheaper by few dollars has a really bad reputation of breaking down. I was just like , "wtf".

"i want to test drive the A5"

"no you can't"

"how are people supposed to buy it then?"

"people buy it without trying it"

Okay, I did some more test driving today, and I think I narrowed it down to:

1. 2010 Mazda 3 GS $24, 569 (w/traction control, dynamic stability control and sunroof $26,175)
-Loved the way this felt driving, and definitely can see why people my age like it. I like that bluetooth comes in it standard
-Apparently there's a fuel tax b/c the fuel efficiency is not as good as the other 2 cars

2. Toyota Corolla CE w/enhanced convenience package $23,413
-Liked the way this drove, and know a lot of people who have had their cars for years with little to no problems.
-It costs extra to add the bluetooth, and it is a bit of an old man car

3. Honda Civic DX-G $23,718
-The drive was okay in this. I know people who love these as well b/c they last forever and also have little to no problems
-I'm not a fan of the big dash, as I have problems seeing the front of the car with my poor depth perception and bluetooth isn't an option

We decided to go new, b/c in Windsor there's few used cars from the dealerships that are worth while, when we can pay a few thousand more and get new. These are the out the door prices that we got. When we decide on which one we're gonna try to barter them down a bit, and call the dealerships in Chatham to see if they'll give us a lower rate.

What are your thoughts?

Specifically, how are the Mazda's on longevity and parts? I plan on having this car for a long time.

The Corolla was one of the more expensive cars I looked at, but I really liked it, so thought maybe I'll go for that. But then I drove the Mazda and loved it, and that's bumping me up even higher in price!

Buy the Corolla because people you've met built it.

It'll likely hold it's value better than any of the others as well. Corollas are just vile for resale.

You really can't go wrong with the Corolla, but IMO, I'd go for the Mazda 3. Yes, it is not as fuel efficient, but you will really not notice an enormous difference. The Mazda 3 has gotten better and better with the years, and the current (new) generation only continues this trend. For aesthetics, pep, and driveability, its a far more 'hip' car than the Corolla. Mechanically, it is on par and a very reliable car. Both cars fare well on the resale market, although if you plan to keep your car more than 5 years, and more than 100k-150k km, at that point in resale life the corolla is a bit better, but again, not by a very large margin.

No one can see the front of the new Civic, just get use to it. I heard nothing but amazing things with them ... if you can over come the dash part. IMO, if you get this car Lisa, get a pillow since your short ... you won't be able to see the dash, but it will help a lot more.

1) Never get a Mazada, parts are expensive and they breakdown fast. Everyone I know who had a Mazada .... never bought one again.

2) Toyota is ok still.

3) Honda is the way to go, they do last forever .... my old Accord 92 still kicked ass after 450,000kms and can take more beating. The only thing Honda has flaws with is electrical areas, but that's minor compaired to replacing an engine or tranny.
