Ok tonight, I'm gonna snap a pic of my lights against a wall and show you...
And just to let you know, my friends BMW has the same upticks on his factory HID projectors... |
what car is it?
i can guarantee from the factory the hid projector doesnt.
if his has upticks hes likely got halogen projectors(oem or aftermarket) with an hid kit(aftermarket or oem) in there.
heres an mkv rabbit with halogen projectors w/ hid

better but still glare all over.
proper way to do it

I have 5000k, they look almost the same as the stocks in my buddy's RX-8, which is 4300k.
DJ Mach X, putting an HID retrofit kit in these cars isn't exactly a straightforward thing. The DRLs in our cars are a pain in the ass, requiring you to ideally have capacitor of at least 4700uF and a battery harness.
The DRLs work by pulsing the power through the circuit, and normal Halogen bulbs can take that - HIDs cannot. If you run without a battery harness or a capacitor without modifying your car to run without DRLs, you'll burn out the HID bulb in a matter of days.
Also the kit you bought is a tremendous piece of . Not only that but I doubt it came with a spacer for the H7 bulb type that our car takes. Without that spacer your bulb will flop around in the projector assembly and be all ed up.
Don't bother modifying the car with like a cold air intake, it's a complete and utter waste of money. The only thing worthwhile is boosting it, which is pricey ($4,000ish for a decent setup, eg. Tri-Point Engineering). Unless you're gonna track it don't bother with suspension or brakes, again, waste of money for the street. |

It's a 3 series... 328 I think..
The flash tells me they're HID's and he got the car new so def not aftermarket... |

I admit they are not as perfect as factory but it clearly shows that it it's below line of sight of oncoming drivers...
Just to compare...

That was the Touareg. Factory projector HIDs...
I think it needs new bulbs and some alignment...
Sorry for the ty pics... |

hot spots and glare. :whip:
no way an e9x bmw has the upticks. neither do the e46.
no oem hid has upticks.
dont confuse the step ups for upticks. completely different.
and yes a proper install requires a wiring harness to the battery... |

Any links or suggestions on the capacitor, battery harness or install on it? Or where to get it? I'm gonna look up that DLR issue and investigate. The kit I bought is specifcaly for the H7, had to specify when I ordered... but it is ebay and they could be in me and taking my money.
Wasn't really keen on the cold air intake in the beginning, was just an idea of my lil brother as a project for my car since he wanted to get me something for my car as a bday gift and he likes to tinker and stuff.
And pretty much all I'm going to do for performance wise is half decent tires on eventually when that time comes around.
Regarding the lights, i'm listening to you all, i'm not ignoring it or anything, but I want to try. New car and I wanted to play around with it, so I bought some lights. I'm going to play with it this weekend and if it turns out to be bad lighting, or doesn't fit properly etc, i'm going take it back out. The most i'm out is $100... big deal, the best I can get out of it is that it works and it looks good, and the definite plus I get out of it is the few beers and BBQ that me and my cousin have while we do it... :D
It's just a project to mess around with... if it works and looks good, sweet.... if it's a pain in the ass, troublesome and ugly... revert back and lesson learned.
I do appreciate everyones input however! That's awesome! |

join toronto mazda 3 forums(among others) and learn up on the car before you tinker with it.
better that way.
I am just trying to save you from putting garbage on the car/making it unsafe for you and others and pointing you in the direction on where to learn about your new car.
we all have the urge to buy things especially for a new car but rushing out and buying things without knowing what you are doing leads to wasted money and worst case scenario, broken parts, poorly executed mods etc. |

When you drill out holes for the cables, make sure that you use lots of sealant...
Moisture in your lights is bad bad bad... |

WOW, this is alot of information, god bless forums!
So I've read, and read and read... and I'm going ahead with it because out of all the forums, there is no horror stories, just people telling you how to do it properly.
I've read and properly found out how to do it on a Mazda 3 while maintaining the DRLs as HIDs and keeping your Automatic Lights feature...
Need to order a few parts (capacitors and some relay units), but found many good walk thrus on this as well... gonna have to push the project back a bit waiting on the parts, but should be good.
I will take project pictures as I do it, before shots, after and some during in case anyone else has every thought or wanted to do it... |
