So after a year and a half of starting this thread, asking questions on here, on the auto show on CP24, and driving a box that has seen more highway kms than most trucks, the old cirrus is finally being laid to rest.
It was a fun 6 years and we had many a good time, you have been a loyal faithful Chrysler, only a bent frame, no rear brakes/lights broken CD player, broken fuel gage, body rust through the quaterpanel, destroyed struts, wires sticking out of the drivers seat, and a tear arm panel on the drivers side door, but the transmission did not go!!! Diginut can attest to the fun factor of long distance travel in my old Chrysler. :) I got half a mile per gallon and still loved you Cirrus!!! You are being replaced by another Chysler.
I swore I would never buy American again but after three test drives and realizing the fun factor was more important than practicality, I took the plunge and bought a 2010 JEEP Wrangler Sport 3.8L engine V6. This thing is addicted to gas and doesnt apologize for it. The next time I hit a boulder on the road, the frame wont bend!!! I was concerned about the fuel economy but anything is better than what I am getting now. And hey, it, the damn thing is fun every season of the year. So there you have it TOTA, I finally, after a VERY long time, took the plunge and bought a new vehicle. |

I thought the new Wranglers had gone unibody too. I could be wrong, I know all other Jeeps are though.
On another note, I'm strongly considering trading my '05 Mazda3 in for a new Mazdaspeed3... My car is super fun on the track when it comes to keeping the momentum up, but I just can't keep up with my buddies in straights. I need boost, bad. |

Over the past few weeks I've been looking for a used car, and here are some lessons learned from what I have encountered so far:
Unless you know the person selling it, avoid buying a car from private hands. Over my scout for a used car in fairly good conditions, I have visited few people incidentally from Auto-trader selling their vehicles. As perfect and as accident-free as they seemed, there was always something in them that at the end of the day made it not worthwhile buying these cars. For example, yesterday I saw an ad on Auto Trader about a 2002 Honda Civic. only 95,000kms!! Alarm, CD, etcc. The car had not a single accident and is first-time owned. The owner also had a legitimate reason to sell it, so all seemed fine. After bargaining with the owner for maybe 10 mins, he easily lowered the price down from the one mentioned originally on Auto Trader. So anyways, all is good and dandy. But I decided to take the car for a check at my Mechanic buddy's place (which brings me to another lesson learned: ALWAYS take the potential purchase car to a mechanic you trust for an assessment. It will save you hassle and headache in the future). My buddy opened the hood and noticed that there was not a single drop of antifreeze in the car. The engine was over-pressured and overheated. He also noticed the pores through which antifreeze would potentially leak into the engine and then travel out through the exhaust pipe. Even if I'd fill up the antifreeze, in 2 days it would empty out again. In other words, what seemed to be at the first look a great vehicle, turned into a potential headache and $1000's of dollars on repair in the future. |
ya , its called buying a used car...
everyones used car is "MINT" and in "perfect" shape. Youll typically come across a good amt of cars that arent what you want when you are looking. Just make sure you check them out thoroughly and do your homework on what you are getting and youll be fine.
Nothing wrong about buying a car from someone you dont know. |

Good for you for buying the Jeep Ian...
As long as you can get past the fuel consumption, they are a hell of a good time to drive...
I've actually been toying with the idea of getting one for myself when the Golf dies on me..
If you ever want to go off roading, call me and we'll bring out the Touareg... |

I don't know how car-saavy you are. Judging by some of your posts, I would wager not completely oblivious. Why not just boost your stock 3? If you're going to spend something like the speed3 prices, get an AWD or RWD platform. You can do so much more with it. |

I've been mulling over the idea of the Tri-Point Engineering turbo kit and a catback setup to get the claimed 250ish whp, but I just worry about longevity of the internals once it's boosted.
It'd be my daily driver, I would prefer manufacturer warranty should something blow up.
Though, if I could find a manual Saab 9-2X Aero at all anywhere with under 100k on it, I'm buying it immediately. Saab clothes on a WRX, love it. |

Yeah, a buddy at my old workplace had one, very nice car.
I can understand your trepidation for boosting stock vs getting something with factory warranty. And 250whp on something that size and weight is devestatingly quick. The 2.3l motor is supposed to be quite stable at low boost levels though.
I've tracked a few of the first gen speed3s and once the new 2010 model. Pretty sweet little cars, but if you're going to be seriously tracking, I'd probably look for a RWD platform.
I was pushing 250whp on my 6, and it just doesn't cut it. Went back to stock, and will see to get a dedicated toy in the next year or two. |
