Then who are these Ghost producers then ? You think that EDM is so big that there is an army of producers behind the scenes making music for almost every big DJ out there ?
There is one person who really knows what music THEY want to play as a DJ and that is only the DJs themselves.. if these so called ghost producers is as good at making music you think they wouldnt launch a career on their own, and get their name out there ? |
Many of the top DJs do indeed have those who produce for them. If Tiesto comes to a small producer and asks that bedroom producer to produce under the Tiesto brand which he has spent many years creating, and Tiesto offers a nice sum of money for this small producer to produce a track under his "Tiesto" name, often, the small producer will say yes. Small time producers don't make much money, and to producers who choose to produce for other under the other's names can make some decent money from that.
Why don't they start their own careers? Many of them do have careers under their own names, but can make extra money producing tracks for other producers.
Another issue exists. Labels these days aren't paying huge advances. If you were a producer, you could choose to produce a track under your name and get it signed for an advance and royalties, but you can make more money in advance these days producing for a guy like Tiesto under Tiesto's name. |

First of all, if you have a big name, you can make an agreement with your "co-producer" as to what the credits are. I have several friends who have been approached by some of the bigger DJs to write music for them. There is an agreement stating that the person producing the track for the big dj may not tell anyone that he/she is producing the tune for the big DJ.
I know there are producers and DJs out there reading this that know that I know what I am talking about, but who are afraid of telling everyone, as they feel like they could be caught and it could either be held against them in court, or could damage their DJ/production careers.
Saying that Kenneth Thomas doesn't know how to produce was a rumour I had heard from several different people. I didn't know it to be true or not, but figured this forum would be a way to get to the bottom of the truth. I never said "Kenneth DOES NOT produce". I just said what I had heard, and not just from one or two people who didn't know each other.
I challenge other producers to come forward and add their knowledge to this thread, as I have a feeling that you are reading this, but are just keeping your mouths shut. |

| Oakenfold had a big name 20 years ago ?
Please explain these as well:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Electra
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Grace
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Movement+98
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Rise
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Virus
These records range 10-20 years back in time.
Now, if someone was producing these FOR Oakenfold, please tell me why these are released under totally different names.
You think Oakenfold just has his name on these records for fun ?
If he cant produce and hires ghost producers, then why are these records not made under the name Paul Oakenfold ??? |

| That was decided upon with his other producers. I haven't seen any productions with his own name one them without other guys. |

He is also going in the studio to produce a track for Madonnas new album, but i guess thats just a scam too right ?
It is true that he always has a second guy with him on his productions, but then again.. he does make some of the best quality Electronic Dance Music (some might disagree here) |

So Lews, I am not attempting to stir up drama. I am attempting to get to the truth. Why does this make you so angry? |

Making music is not a hard thing to do, especially when you are a DJ and has music for an every day job.
The hard thing about making music is the actual mixing/production, sound design and fine tuning of a track.. that is what takes time.. and most big DJs has other producers/engineers helping them with it due to busy schedules.
And there is a HUGE difference between "doesnt know how to produce" and getting help on productions.
You already lost credibility by throwing Armin, and BT into the equation. Armin may have become a sell out.. but there is no doubt that this guy was a mastermind in his good years and knows very well how to write, produce, mix and master a track. |

I never said Armin didn't know how to produce, nor did I say that BT didn't know how to produce. Someone else may have, but certainly would never say that, because I know both of them do produce.
Making a percussion may not be tough, but making a memorable, fully produced track is no easy endeavor.
Yes, I have opinions just as we all do, but I have certainly heard stories from some of the world's top producers. I am not assuming anything though as you have.
I have never said "Armin doesn't produce, Tiesto doesn't produce". I never said producing music was simple, nor did I say DJing is simple. Creating a top tune or a top level DJ set, in my opinion, is something only a handful have truly mastered. |
