As I read in an earlier post......these front guys.......top 20 DJ's earn a lot of money to perform. They pay people....with their input of course to the songs to write and produce. Trust me I have a family member who earns $2,500.00 plus per week flying from LA to New York to Miami writing and producing.
Hey rock stars play their instruments while the producers work the board and when a band wants a different sound...they hire a different producer.
The movie producer who makes the movie doesn't work the camera....he hires people to work that.....same thing! |
Yeh, there's nothing wrong with hiring extra help. The problem is when people try to remove those producers from the equation and take 100% of the credit. |

| What i really want to know is.. When is a shogun song really a shogun song when it's really a M&S54 song with a shogun name slapped on it. Thats all.. |

| Yea that does suck....but the producer is hired to produce and signs all kinds of "none disclosure" paperwork that is all kept secret. When you hear a certain sound.....the XXXXXXXXX sound it really could be the work of some young music guy and not the Dj them self. |

| If a ghostwriter does not get credit you cannot blame the artist for taking all the credit. You have to blame the ghostwriter. They are allowing this to happen for a price. The ghost writers should have more respect for their music and release it themselves. |

Hi, I understand why you say this and it's an easy assumption to make. However, realize that there are many starving artists out there that have bills to pay. Production work just does not make any money these days unless you are making extremely mainstream dance music. |

Activa does all David Newsum's tracks from what I've heard. Trance-cracker stuff, so who cares, really.
I only wish Benno should stop living in the shadow of Armin van Boring and produce for himself. He's talented as hell. |

Wow, I finally got around to reading this entire thread, and this is the post that really made the most sense to me. I think MeLLyMeL hit the nail on the head.

Thing is - if I want to go see someone because I love their productions (this mostly goes for the smaller producers) then I want to go because I like THEIR productions. I don't want a fukin imposter. I am far too old to solely go out and just get mangled. I like a producer - I'll go hear him play. |
A lot of people have the ability to write music, but only a very small percentage are able to create a hit that will burn the dancefloors. I'm honestly a little surprised that so many people shrug the issue off and don't consider this a big deal.
The problem doesn't lie with the DJ's who hire producers and later include them in the credits, the problem is when certain guys use their power and influence in the industry to EXPLOIT really talented, but vulnerable, producers. I personally know of at least four people that have been affected.
As others have mentioned earlier in this thread, being a truly great songwriter requires years and years of practice, dedication, and devotion to your art. There's a lot of problems that lie within the music industry, but this is what I would consider the absolute worst. When somebody cheats the system and takes 100% of the credit so they can land more gigs, boost their brand, increase profits, or whatever, then they're only one step away from actual plagiarism and theft of intellectual property.
If the practice of ghost-writing weren't a big deal, then how did it spur about 33 pages of debate and discussion? This is just an example but would BEP have as many loyal fans and customers if it were David Guetta feat. Black Eyed Peas - 'I Gotta Feeling' versus just Black Eyed Peas - 'I Gotta Feeling' ??? I think probably not.
Side note: I realize that Guetta received a Grammy nomination for his work, but few actually receive any recognition at all.
Jus' my $0.02 :D |

Why? Maybe Benno doesn't want to be in a spotlight. |
yea i think so also, even when rank1 does their dj set most of the time the other guy just comes and spins
good for benno let him just lay low and make the hits |

| Markus Schulz has hired ghostwriters. So have David Guetta and the EC Twins. Deadmau5 wrote Glenn Morrison's biggest hits. Manufactured Superstars are not the ones responsible for their tracks, they usually work with an already established producer. Sasha has Charlie May/Duncan Forbes and Digweed has Nick Muir. Tiesto has bought ideas from more talented songwriters and not given credit in his albums. |
