Update:
1. Tiesto produces 65% of his tunes, and then the producer, who he credits, finishes the tunes.
2. Dave Dresden is producing under his name, so even if he didn't know how to produce during his G&D days, he seems to have learned.
3. I have heard that Serge Devant hires producers to produce for him.
4. I have heard that Niklas Harding does not know how to produce, but hires others to produce for him.
5. I have heard that Paul Oakenfold makes his ghost writers sign contracts stipulating that that they may not tell anyone that they are producing for Oakenfold. Paul Oakenfold "composes for movies" but really hires a team to compose. He oversees producers.
6. DJ Sasha comes up with production concepts, and the Charlie May and other producers on his team execute. Charlie May nnd other producers are given credit for the productions.
7. I have heard DJ Kristina Sky doesn't know how to produce, but paired up with Randy Boyer because she felt she needed productions under her belt to further her DJing career.
8. Calderone and Reddick did not produce "Sound Of Flight", but had Tom Porcell of Funabashi produce their tune for them.
9. Martin Buttrich produces for Loco Dice
10. BT can produce, but gets substantial help with production elements from others. He gets Andy Page to write for him
11. Benny Bennassi gets his cousin Alle to produce his tunes. He's in the studio with Benny Bennassi. Benny sits around and does nothing while alle is on the computer putting everything together. He also states how they usually work in the studio: Benny checks on Alle every now and then to see how it sounds and gives input every now and then.
12. Vandit/Baroque signed "artist" Fei Fei is just a DJ, and hires a producer to produce for her. |

This is the ultimate conspiracy! Oakenfold hires ghostproducers who can't produce to cover up the fact that he can't produce :confused:

this is like the TA version of Gossip Girl...
however,
i've said it before and i'll say it again, it is the nature of the industry to develop names, brand names.
it wouldn't surprise me if one of those names actually don't know how to produce.
tiesto is a brand.
pvd is a brand.
armin is a brand.
sasha is a brand.
richie hawtin is a brand.
i know it takes from the "passion" these dj's show live, but that doesn't take away from the actual production.
for decades, dj's were only dj's! all they did was play records and people danced. you go to a regular club these days and no one knows who's spinning, all you know is that if the music is good you'll dance, have some drinks and hopefully get laid.
now you have this boom where everyone and their dog wants to dj and produce. so what would any smart business person do? develop brands!
if you ask me, what's the difference between nsync, backstreet boys and tiesto?
they both have people produce for them. all they have to do is get on stage, mix the tracks or perform and collect 50k, which of course a big % goes to the brain behind the project.
guys, don't be so naive, it is all about branding. i'm surprised you fail to realize this, especially these days.
don't go on now generalizing that the industry is fake and everybody is in it for the money, if you hear something on beatport or any other sites and you LIKE what you listen to then who the hell cares who's behind the track? it's a different approach to music, but it is still music! |
