^^if it makes you feel any better, it seems as though *most* of the events the USA are "decent" at have passed. I dont see us doing extremely well the second week, so there is plenty of time to catch up ;)

next week:

curling
bobsled
hockey
cross country skiing
ski jump
biathlon
ice dancing
nordic combined
womens ice skating
alpine Super G
team speed skating

....etc

:nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: next week could be a total FAIL.

Ultimately I think that's the root of my point, your expectations are set way too high... Blame "own the podium" or whatever else!

ps. how can I cash in my slap? lol

I was referring to total medal count, which is what the topic is about, no?

2008- USA: 110 total, China 100
2004- USA: 102, China: 63
2000: USA: 91, China: 59
1996: USA: 101, China: 50

And if you are arguing population, this is your worst argument EVER since China has like 1.5 billion people :haha: Doesnt that mean that they should win a lot more than the USA? ;)

and please, dont speak at me about "true american BS" I am impartial and look at facts (not to mention can completely appreciate when canada wins an event). The USA Is very good in the summer games, there is no denying that, based on FACTS. I wouldnt be sitting here arguing this fact if we won, say, only 18 medals in the summer games....oh wait, that was Canada :haha:

I do agree that population can have a small part in getting better athletes but I don't think its as big a factor as you are making it out to be. We are talking about the top athletes at their sports and I think the biggest factors that separate the medal winners from non-medal winners is the money spent on training, developing technology and coaching.

you can't really compare medal count because there are a lot more medals handed out at the summer olympics than the winter olympics. If anything you would have to look at the percentage of medals won in order to compare how a country does between summer and winter.

lol gawwwwddd

The one big difference I've noticed between USA and Canada is that USA is winning unexpected medals and Canada isn't. Canada has also lost out on medals in events they should have gotten medals (i.e. Men's Figure Skating, Men's Downhill, an Men's Super G)

the olympics are a cluster, you can't predict

I would say the USA is pretty dominate in Winter Games. The only country that has more medals all time is Norway.

I was comparing because he was referring to population size being a factor ;)

Also, i was using it as a reference to explain that we usually do very well in the summer (most often than not taking the top spot), where as winter, we havent gotten the top spot since 1932. (I heard that on TV the other night).

Its also relevant to what *you* are talking about ie: what sports each country tend to invest time and money in.....

^^discussion in numbers ;)
