Actually, I would argue that generalizations ARE a good representation of how people think and act, simply because the vast majority of people are idiots.

I've just been analyzing my reactions to the outcomes of some of the games, just now the men's speed skating where Canada took the gold, and I found myself disappointed that the US didn't win. Then I remembered how much I love Canada, and I was happy they won. It was reading all the ridiculous anti US feelings here and in another forum, not the legit stuff, but the stupid , that made me slip back to rooting for the USA. I love Canada, and I hope they grab as much gold possible before the curtain closes tomorrow night.

The eastern and western seaboards of the US and the interior of the US are two VERY different places. Food for thought when considering the origin of certain stereotypes. Most of the stereotypes and resentment, I think at least, seem to be based off of the ideologies and mentalities of the mid-west.

ps. it's now official that this will be our highest medal placing ever in any winter Olympics...we came through in the end....very happy that we turned it around as the beginning of the Olympics were quite disappointing in terms of squandered results.

thank you so much for saying that. I can not express how many times I have tried to explain this to foreigners and they STILL clump me, as an individual, into said mid-western and southern stereotypes. I am glad someone out there is educated enough to understand this! ;) :)

can we PLEASE move on to the Canadian Olympics now? I would love nothing more than to move AWAY from the ^^above subject. (not directed at you, slingshot).

The most gold medals ever won in a Winter Olympics is 13.
We can tie it tonight with a gold in men's curling, & surpass it with a gold tomorrow in men's hockey!!! :)

Not gonna lie, pretty damn proud to be Canadian right now.
For all the flack the COC has been getting for the Own the Podium program, I've gotta say that we're totally pwning it right now with gold.
