lol. speaking of losers, evil_cookie is the biggest one in this thread.

if the canadian guys lost, they would have acted much worse. they probably wouldn't have showed their face for the medal.

On a better note. We were sitting on the couch and looking at the footage from Dundas Square and couldn't let the opportunity pass to actually go down there. That was the best decision. The crowd surfing was insane. So many nice photos. I also found the one guy with a Poland hat :D. Ha ha! Wikkid.

The sad thing is, Crosby had a terrible Olympics, but because he scored that goal the casual fan will make him into a hero.

Also I don't think that Canada will get an Olympics anytime soon after this one. Competition-wise, it was great, but logistically it was handled very poorly:

- Luger death
- Gaffes at opening ceremony and Gretzky bringing the torch to the outdoor cauldron
- Very poor weather conditions in the mountains (too many people wiping out, events consistently delayed, etc.)
- Questionable judging in some sports from Canadian officials, most notably pairs figure skating
- Canadian women's hockey team disgracing their country on center ice after they won gold...yes...champagne and drinking are acceptable...but no team has been stupid enough like them to this point to do it in public
- A couple other things too

Again good Olympics, but terribly organized.

Excellent point on Crosby. I also thought Bergeron and Brodeur struggled, as did Pronger at times.

Every Olympic has issues during, see Athens and Atlanta for starters. And as for the weather, that's out of the organisers control but yeah, there were gaffes here and there. Out of all your points I would say the luge death is the only truly relevant one.

The other issues obviously pale in comparison and are minor issues you tend to have any time you put on an event of this scope and magnitude. I'm sure with a bit of research you'll find issues in every Olympics.

This was the tale of two Olympics, the unfortunate aspects of the first week and the shining moments of second one.

We won't get the Olympics for awhile because we had it in '88 and 2010, not because of the issues you listed. Money speaks volumes, however, and these games probably turned a profit and satisfied many sponsors, I'm sure. The TV numbers will be huge as well.

I hear Quebec City will push for the Olympics in 2024. This is gonna be a tough act to follow as they will have to build almost everything from scratch. It will be on a much smaller scale than these games, most likely.

there are issues like that at every olympics. anything can happen. i love how the weather issue is added to the list. like we were controlling the weather with our "terrible" organization.

remember when there was that olympic park bomber at the atlanta olympics? 2 people died and over 100 were injured. not only that but the guy that discovered the bomb before it exploded was accused by the media as being a suspect.

stuff happens people. the only thing you can be sure of is that you can't plan for everything. you can try your best but it will always fail.

Why do you think Crosby had a bad olympics? Just because he did not score or have an assist in all 7 games doesn't mean he had a bad olympics. Crosby had 7 points in all olympic games tied with Igilna, Getzlaf and Heatley only one behined Toews. He was a +2 which was about the median compared to the rest of the team (Thornton line was -1, +1, +1). He made little plays in which contributed to the game that didnt look like it mattered much but it did.

He also has 2 game winning goals.... one in the shootout and one in the gold medal which actually pulled Canada to beat the Swiss then the shootout was going for the long run, and not to mention becoming Captain Clutch last night. Only person with 2 game winning goals was Igilna... one of them was against Norway where they shut them out which was a no contest.

So really, I think based on numbers and speculation, Crosby did have a good Olympics. When he needed to be his best he was even better.

We (Canada) would have been more devastated than the Americans...if we had lost this game in the last minute and then overtime, Vancouver would have looked like Haiti afterwards.

Crosby didn't do much over last few games, piled up his points early just like Heatley. That's the thing about statistical anaysis, it doesn't tell the whole story, doesn't give you trends depending on how it's presented.

With Heatley I'm not surprised.. when he played for Ottawa he would always get tons of regular season goals, and when the playoffs come, well...
