In most of the european countries hockey is still looked at as a man's game...remember it wasn't that long ago...10 years or so....that hockey was still considered a man's game in north america. There is very little money put into women's hockey and there still isn't a professional league where the best players can play. Many coaches in Europe refuse to coach women's hockey as its considered a demotion.

The only way the hockey will get better is for more elite players from europe start playing in north america in the college, university programs and in leagues here where they can get the coaching and development they need. There are some very talented women from europe but they just don't get the training and knowledge about the game from the coaching in europe. Most of the women in europe play in pick up leagues.

what does the view of women playing hockey in europe have to do with the olympics accepting it as a sport. if there is no competition then it shouldn't be a sport. maybe the focus should be to fight the backwards views of women in europe instead of wasting time on watching the scoring slaughter of canada playing other countries.

the canadian women actually are getting a reputation as a bunch of lesbian amazons that get made fun of in the rest of the world like the east german swim team is always made fun of.

Wasn't it the Canadian Olympic Committee that deemed it a failure? I'm not taking a big ol' steamy on anything our athletes have done; however, the goal of the program was for Canada to medal in sports we don't traditionally do well in, no? If that was the goal then it has failed, as we've only done well in the things we normally do well in. I'm still quite proud of what our athletes have done but the program was not successful.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs said they were GOING to WIN the Stanley Cup but lost in the first round of the playoffs....would that not be a failure?

The Canadian Olympic Committee said they WOULD finish on top of the medal standings...and Canada will not....FAILURE

In their defense we ARE tied for the lead in gold medals which is only second to having the most medals imo.

Props to the Canadian women for keeping us in these games. At least they have balls.

And if the Americans had gone out on the ice and drank beer and smoked cigars after, we would've never heard the end of it.

I am proud of all the athletes....its the C.O.C. that I'm pissed at. You don't put this kind of pressure on the athletes, especially for home land olympics. It is clear that the pressure of performing infornt of the home crowd was too much for some of the athletes to handle...no different then for other countries. Maybe more time and money should have been spent on sports psychology instead of advertising that we will own the podium.

If you made the humble pie out of poutine, I'd gobble it so fast words couldn't pry their way out with a crowbar.

(Poutine is a QC thing, I know)

anyone who didn't see that coming is retarded :p

We did well, did better that Russia, China, Great Britain, etc.

About the games, the weather was too rainy at some points and maybe too warm at others, we had the luge death and the event delays, Opening Ceremony viagra debacle but if you were on the streets of Vancouver, it is a smashing success; 2010 is going down as the warmest and most-watched Winter Olympics in the largest city ever to host it.

I'll try to post pics and vids before it becomes passé :toocool:
