What the hell is that even supposed to mean? Have you even read the reader comments following the news articles about that incident? Apparently, you´re the ONE person commenting on those sites claiming it was a disgrace while hundreds laugh it off as an amusing stunt. Those who don´t comment, obviously don´t care enough to do so, thus making my claim fairly accurate.

Yes, and no. A silver or bronze medal is a recognition that's better than nothing in an event

Yes, that IS a fairly description of a ¨consolation prize¨, good job dude. And yes, people who come second and third have still LOST the competition. What matters most is the number of VICTORIES, not who´s best at being the best loser.

Are you f'ing kidding me?

I cheered Canada the whole way, and many of my friends down here did the same. Your statement says more about you than it does your target.

Pickle's do not deserve to be treated that way.

I just had VANOC phone mother nature....so hopefully she'll have a lightning bolt coming your way that will zap it out of your ass shortly. Obviously you've seen how tight we are with her. We say, she does. That's how we win medals brah!

Are you that retarded to judge this subject over a bunch of dweebs posting comments on Yahoo! blogs and TSN stories?

Why would anyone be compelled to post a comment on a blog entry that has 5,000 responses and no one will read it?

You seem to think that not being an internet dweeb means you don't care.

In events where the USA got Silver/Bronze and Canada didn't even place on the podium, who did better? Who got the victory there when comparing the two countries?

:stongue: just give it up...you're making yourself look like a total assclown.

Why are you even trying to justify. The US SHOULD have more medals in EVERYTHING compared to us.

Canadian Population: 34,018,000 (according to Wiki - 2010 Estimates)
United States Population: 308,778,000 (according to Wiki - 2010 Estimates).

Based on that alone the US athlete pool should be significantly larger than ours, have a lot more funding, and should be producing a lot more top athletes than we could even dream of having.

But that doesn't seem to be the case.

You know what? You're right. You're absolutely right.

Because we all know that population totals determine the country with the greatest athletes...hence the reason Jamacian's Usain Bolt is the best runner in the world.

Let's compare:

Gold Medals:

Canada - 14
USA - 9
Winner: Canada

Silver Medals:

Canada - 7
USA - 15
Winner: USA

Bronze Medals:

Canada - 5
USA - 13
Winner: USA

Overall Medals:

Canada - 26
USA - 37
Winner: USA

Just because you got 5 more goal medals than us doesn't mean you "won" the entire Olympics. Take a look at the Silver and Bronze medal counts...we got more than twice of those than you in those categories. Overall is what really matters.

Under your logic, you would believe this hypothetical situation:

Country X wins 50 medals, 13 golds
Canada wins 20 medals, 14 golds

CANADA IS BETTER DOOD!!1111!111

:stongue:

Who cares about silver and bronze....they are just second and third place....both loosing positions. In the end Canada won more events in one winter olympics then any other country in history.

I see we lack reading comprehension here. I already debunked that logic a little while ago.

Jesus christ, cant people just be happy on how well BOTH our countries did and shut the hell up?

BOTH countries won the most medals ever in their countries respective histories! Thats AWESOME.

Canada did well in their home country, and the USA did well in the winter games, which they have not always been *as* competitive in, as opposed to summer.

We should be happy that both of our countries are making progress and giving us games worth cheering about!! :p

Jeff: I see your point, but please can we NOT talk about population ALL over again for the sake of our sanity? Please refer back a few pages....

Population is only a very small factor and it shouldn't be used to justify not getting as many medals. Canada and the US both had over 200 athletes at the games. Yes, the US has a larger population to choose athletes from but when you are talking about the top two or three from each sport the actual athletic skills are not that different. The biggest difference is in funding for training, technology, etc.

Dude, just let it go. Some people prefer winning more medals, some prefer winning more golds. Its a subjective thing, and you can argue all day long, but it wont change anybodys minds. ;)

you are right...we should all be happy for how well our countries athletes performed in these games....but I do have to point out again that the USA is number two for overall winter olympic medals so you have always been as competitive in the winter as you have the summer olympics.
