Why is it that I'm not hearing from my American-loving hockey friends? Mouth full, chomping on some humble pie?

Am I the only one who thinks womens hockey should be retired from the Olympics? It's not really a tournament when you constantly beat up on a bunch of amateurs.

Either that, or just have a best of 7 between Canada and USA every 4 years.

i have been thinking that these past weeks.

there is no real competition and it is just a waste of time and resources.

some people here at work said: "but how will everyone else improve if they don't get a chance to play" but i think they get enough opportunity on the world circuit in the world cup. i mean, i wouldn't mind if in like 20 years it comes back but for now we don't need it. there are many other sports that could be included instead.

they disallowed women's ski jumping because of lack of competition but allow hockey? it's pretty lame. i am sure the ski jumper ladies' get much less chances to compete.

The problem is they don't get enough opportunity...although it's getting better. In most of the european countries hockey is still looked at as a man's game...remember it wasn't that long ago...10 years or so....that hockey was still considered a man's game in north america. There is very little money put into women's hockey and there still isn't a professional league where the best players can play. Many coaches in Europe refuse to coach women's hockey as its considered a demotion.

The only way the hockey will get better is for more elite players from europe start playing in north america in the college, university programs and in leagues here where they can get the coaching and development they need. There are some very talented women from europe but they just don't get the training and knowledge about the game from the coaching in europe. Most of the women in europe play in pick up leagues.
