If that's alluding to his RedBull Music Academy interview, where he speaks to music cues falling a little too precisely, I would take issue with that. Software certainly allows one to do that, but having used both software and hardware sequencers and drum-machines, I know it's within anyone's ability to replicate such changes with them.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, as you seem to touch on the fact that Parrish seems a little lost with software technology, but I thought he was making generalizing declarations predicated by his preference for hardware like Akai's MPC series. |

Keep digging. You're right, there are different ways to throw down at a party. You can mix your set well, with proper transitions, etc. or you can trainwreck, and slam your way from amazing song to amazing song.
You like what/how he plays, most of the other people here don't. That doesn't make them wrong, and it doesn't make you right. Just because you think shoddy mixing is excusable for a professional DJ, doesn't make it so.
It's not ignorance, it's taste. You and sg whatever can blather on and on about "getting it" or talking up Theo like he's some sort of musical messiah that nobody but the chosen ones can "understand" but you're really just coming off as a pretentious dick at this point. "Omg you don't like the same DJ as me? You're clueless!" Come on now, you should know better than that ;) |

What makes you an authority? SYSTEM-J's original post only mentioned that Parrish couldn't beatmatch, which triggered a number of posts from you saying how boring super-smooth transitions are. No one suggested that Parrish should be doing the safe, predictable transitions that many DJs do - only that he should not be a complete hack at it; i.e. shoes in a tumblerdryer, as Jay so aptly put it.
Besides, your assertion that mixing that way indicates a lack of love or passion for the music is ridiculous, and clearly a lame excuse to let you continue with being the guy who gets what's 'authentic'. Don't think anyone has forgotten that, like the rest of us, you too were a trancecracker not so many years ago.
Also, on this comment: "to me he's like a ron hardy, mixing with attitude versus aptitude." What delusion makes you believe people can't possess both? |

no, i'm really not, i'm saying he does something different than what you guys think is the only 'proper' way to DJ, and I like it, and many others do, and there are many other DJs who belong in this thread before Theo does.
The ignorance is thinking that because someone mixes differently they 'can't mix'. That's not taste, it's ignorant. |

I'm not entering the debate here, apart to pick the bones of a few facts/opinions, but this isn't a valid argument. If I were going to be trolling, defending the work of ********, DJRYANtm, Vincent, Wesley Oakes, or any other lack-lustre goomba to populate the overall thread count with unending noise pollution, this is something I would use to start.
You may not be wrong and maybe Parrish is an acquired taste (From what I've heard, I like him, but I haven't heard a lot) but I think you're going to have to dive in a little farther to demonstrate the method to his madness. I don't think blaming someone, who can't relate to Parrish's performance eccentricities, for being ignorant negates the validity of their claim. If you truly feel that way, the burden is on you to enlighten that person rather than casting out a conditional ad hominem which places your comprehension above theirs. |
