I've seen plenty of DJs who I respect have bad nights. Omar S has played ty 50% of the time I've seen him, and I've left the venue 30 min into the set at times. But I'll listen to his 2005 house mix any day, and certainly would never label him 'worst dj'. I enjoy Francois K's maybe about 50% of the time as well, but I still think he's a master DJ. I've yet to be disappointed by Theo, though I'm completely aware that I could catch him on a bad night.
As I said before, sorry you had a bad night, but Theo Parrish has no business in this thread.

I think you're right, but people make mistakes and people get tired, and people get lazy (especially artists!) and people don't hire Theo Parrish because they want a 100% reliable/100% effort robot, they hire him because he is a legend and because he can turn out a serious set if he feels like it. And judging by the guy's repeated bookings, his off days don't affect his rep as a performer, and judging by his own words and actions, he doesn't give a if people who don't respect who he is as a person, perfect or imperfect, decide not to book him.

Theo Parrish is the genuine answer to that question. I'm not going to lie about the answer because the guy's got a legendary rep and because someone else saw him play well. I have to agree with J here, and that doesn't happen often :p He went to a night, and judged the guy by what effort was put in on that night. You say it yourself, Adam, right here.

When somebody goes to see a DJ, they go so on the expectation that the guy is doing more than just picking up a cheque and that he's going to put some effort in to play for whatever crowd the event has. It shouldn't be hard to look at other DJs who've played said event and adjust if necessary, but if he really put in such little effort then he definitely deserves to be here. You're only as good as your last set and reputation doesn't allow you to be half-assed. Either want to play the place and put a bit of effort in, or decline the booking. The latter is unlikely, so he should have at least tried.

You'd be doing yourself a massive disservice. The best thing about Theo is that it's raw and you don't know what you're going to get or what direction the set is going to take next.

On the contrary. If more people would think like I do, Theo might actually start to notice a negative trend in his bookings, and start taking his DJ-ing a bit more seriously. Obviously, that's unlikely to happen with the kind of fanbase he has, but it's about the principle.

Maybe that video cut out the full spectrum of sound, but the constant tweak of the highpass over the low-end of the first song didn't do it for me. Honestly, it was like watching an amateur DJ who felt interjecting himself into the mix was more important than the quality of the production he was playing. It was consistent with the second or third video nefardec posted, as well.
I liked the production work more than the DJ'ing, which seemed to constantly stomp all over the production work, instead of getting out of its way.

I'd have to agree with that. Plus he looks like a retard behind the decks for the first half of the video. Brings to mind this...
