Oh most def. Oakenfold was amazing. I first heard of trance in 2006 (well after Oakenfold declined) and listened to a ton of old sets mainly Digweed, Sasha, Oakenfold and Tiesto. Tiesto was pretty good too. Sasha and Digweed are still good but not at there peak anymore.

i personally have played plenty of parties where the crowd or occasion was super wack, and it's literally impossible for a sensitive artist type to perform with the same soul and connection at this type of event.
There are truly monster 6 hour recordings of theo out there. I personally have seen him at deep space with Francois K twice, for 6 hours both times, at an outdoor party for about 3 hours in the middle of a thunderstorm, and at a loft party for god knows how many hours. he brought it and then some everytime. vigorous mixing, impeccable selection, emotional mastery.
this is from one of the parties I was at (im a tall guy in a white shirt with a striped naked lady on the floor, i believe kenny a was here too) this is before it rained. best part was when he played steve reich's electric counterpoint III in the height of the rain. this is just a chill sunday afternoon thing. he was super stoned.

The guy came on at 23.00 and had a two and a half hour warm-up slot until 1.30am. When he came on the place would have been over half empty. What the did he decide was so wack so early? Had he only just realised he was playing in an old bomb shelter underneath a rail station, and his milquetoast brand of armchair house wasn't going to do the job in that space? If the guy had been the victim of bad promoting or a terrible crowd I might sympathise with you/him, but he was on in the right slot, he had the longest slot of the night and he had a Manchester crowd who knew their as much as any festival-ish crowd are ever going to. If he decided there and then it wasn't a good gig then he's clearly a ing idiot for not realising what it entailed before he took it. You can try and dress it up with quotes from an Indian classical musician all day long, but I give it one of two options:
1. He was a complete cynic and took the cheque for a gig he knew he'd hate.
2. He simply wasn't good enough for the occasion.
And maybe he has brought it when you've seen him, but there's a saying "You're only as good as your last gig". I have never seen a professional DJ the bed so badly and so he belongs in this thread. During one particularly undanceable horse-race of a transition people around us were literally laughing at how bad it was. And from what bas has said, it ain't the only time this has happened.
EDIT: Also, what the is he trying to do in that first video? Sounds like absolute arse.

Even that would be no excuse to deliver a half-assed performance. When you've taken on a gig yourself and you're getting paid for it, you owe both the guys organising the party and/or the people dancing a 100 percent effort, if only because their reactions will affect your rep as a performer later on.
Then again, it's probably a lot easier to ignore this when you're getting booked on the basis of your productions rather than your mixing, and the people who support you have the same attitude of looking down on crowds because they don't "get" the music you're playing.
