Yep, hes retiring.. end of next season as i thought..
ALAN SHEARER, the greatest English striker of his generation, last night confirmed he will retire at the end of next season.
Shearer, 33, expects to sign a one-year extension to his contract today that will tie him to Newcastle United until May 2005.
The Newcastle captain had always claimed he did not want to play beyond his 35th birthday, and his new deal will take him to within three months of that date.
Shearer, widely touted as Sir Bobby Robson's likely successor, yesterday refused to rule out a managerial career in the future - although there is no provision for that, or any coaching work, in his contract.
He said: "This will be my last contract. I don't think saying that will come back to haunt me.
"I've always said I'd retire at the top and this is where I want to finish my career.
"We've been talking about the extension for some time. I'm pleased it's been agreed, and I'm confident I can get it done before Saturday's game.
"I haven't made any firm plans for the future; I'm keeping my options open.
"I definitely haven't ruled out management, but there's nothing in the contract regarding management or coaching.
"I enjoy my media work. I enjoy going to football matches, and the media work keeps me involved with the England scene because I get to go to all the games.
"People will say there's a career in that for me, and maybe they're right. But maybe there's a career in something else for me."
Robson believes Shearer, who was on the verge of quitting Newcastle in 1999 before Ruud Gullit left and was replaced by the former England manager, is correct to quit in 2005. |

Shearer has said if he's still going strong at the end of next season, he may extend it another year.
Top league scorers this season:
Henry 22
Shearer 21
Van Nistelrooy 18
Forssell 16
Shearer is 29 goals short of becoming Newcastle's highest ever goalscorer. |

IMO nistelroy is out of leading goal scorer. its between shearer and henry. question is who we gonna get to replace him, imo nobody in the newcaslte team is as half as good. |

Apparently Newcastle have only been issued 1600 tickets for the away game at PSV Eindhoven.
It's probably because of the trouble that happened over there against NAC Breda earlier this season - 87 Newcastle fans were arrested in the city, mostly for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

Whereabouts you sitting and how much did it cost? I'm really skint but I'd love to make it.
Btw, the unofficial singing area against PSV is again the Leazes level 7. So if you want to avoid all the daytrippers/tourists etc and want to sing your head off then go there. This was adopted as the singing section against Mallorca and worked well, the lads organizing it got a mention in the Evening Chronicle and even the Sun! I was further down the leazes but I could hear them chanting the likes of "shoes off, if you love the toon" (this on a bitterly cold night!) :D
PSV should bring a few thousand fans over, unlike Mallorca who didn't bring any!
Howay lads! |

I'm gonna be in the Milburn Stand near the Platinum Bar (?), it would be only the 3rd time I've been to SJP as I live in London :)
it was £46 for 2 people, £2 booking fee, £22 each!
not bad going tbh :-)
btw, have you been to SJP many times before? need ur help or anybody elses, need some info on how far holiday inn is from the train station, stuff like that.
If you are able to help I'll post the question :)
Cheers |
