I wonder if they took that picture in Iraq or in Newcastle's West End!

Newcastle appear to be on the verge of signing Steven Carr from Tottenham.

NUFC.com talk about it like it's a done deal and expect it to be confirmed in the next 72 hours, Sky Sports are also linking him with us. He only has one-year left on his contract with Spurs and has so far refused to sign a new one, and they don't want to let him go for free next summer. He has been left out of the squad for the last two friendlies despite not being injured and has just lost his captaincy to King, which suggests he is almost certain to leave.

Good news guys,

bought myself a new Kodak 5 Megapixel Digital Camera which includes audio & video capture so I will be making some video clips of my trip to Newcastle in 2 weeks time! I'll make a video clip of in the stadium, so those who are less fortunate or do not live near Newcastle can get a taste of the atmosphere :)

Cheers!

GOOD NEWS:
Newcastle have confirmed on the official website that we have agreed terms with Tottenham for Steven Carr and the player will have his medical in the next couple of days. He should make his debut next week, against his former club!

BAD NEWS:
Robert has become our 5th player to fall victim to viral conjunctivitis and will almost certainly miss the Boro game, so expect Milner to start on the left wing.

Newcastle have said that they might ask the FA to postpone the game on Saturday to prevent any more players catching the outbreak.

It is 5 days since our team trained together and the players have had to keep themselves fit in local parks because they can't have contact with each other. Today they began training again but had to change in their cars because changing rooms are out of bounds and had to return to their homes to have showers before returning to training. This isn't the usual conjunctivitis which many people get but the more rare and more serious strain of it. This is seriously ing up our pre-season preparations. Two of our three keepers have caught the infection already.

Some Middlesbrough fans are planning to go to the game wearing eye patches. Middlesbrough police have already banned fans from entering the stadium wearing gas masks or chemical suits.

Looks like the game on Saturday could be called off, I can't imagine a worse pre-season than this:

League monitor health scare

The Premier League could postpone Newcastle's season opener against Middlesbrough because of growing concerns over a health scare.

Newcastle's pre-season preparations have been hit by a contagious eye infection with five players sidelined.

"We are seeking expert medical advice with regard to the public health connotations of the game," said a Premier League spokesperson.

"Not just for the Newcastle players but also the Middlesbrough players."

If football chiefs consider there is a high risk factor then the match at the Riverside will be called off.

On the other hand, if it is deemed a low risk Newcastle will have to apply to Premier League chiefs to postpone the match.

Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given, Lee Bowyer, Andy O'Brien, Tony Caig and Laurent Robert have all been laid low by the virus.

The club has also had to shut down its Darsley Park training ground to try and contain the outbreak.

Players are being forced to change in their cars and fans have been banned from collecting autographs.

The remaining members of the squad have been told to take a series of measures to protect themselves but the club is worried about losing more key players.

"We are very concerned our players are having to train together," said a United spokesman.

"But this is something they will have to continue to do to prepare for Saturday's game.

"It is possible more of our players could have the virus without them knowing about it."

More bad news.

The Premiership rejected our request yesterday to postpone the game. With Woodgate, Taylor and O'Brien all injured we thought we would be down to the bare bones, with Carr playing 3 days after signing for us and Hughes and Bramble in the centre.

But it's worse than that.

Bramble has gone down injured today meaning we must now play reserve left-back Robbie Elliott in central defence with Hughes moving into the centre and Carr making his debut. Elliott hasn't started a Premiership game for over 2 years. Of our 8 defenders, 4 are injured, if we lose one more we will have to consider changing formation, playing reserves or dropping a midfielder back. All this before the season has even started

fecking hell, oh well, at least Bramble is injured, maybe Robbie will do a better job and kick the ball properly!

Newcastle's current injury list (10 players):

Robert
Caig
O'Brien
Taylor
Woodgate
Bramble
Bowyer
Ameobi
Dyer
Ambrose

Derek Wright the club Physio has also picked up the eye infection.

Our players have had to keep themselves fit in local parks and have only trained together twice in the last week, but the training ground is out of bounds and they have had to shower at home and get changed in their cars. The Premiership have told us we must play on Saturday but Newcastle are not happy about it and could appeal the decision. The England team are considering calling off their friendly at St James Park against Ukraine due to the spread of this virus.

MIDDLESBROUGH 2 - 2 NEWCASTLE UNITED
(Downing, Diego Maradona) - (Bellamy, Shearer)

In the last minute of the game Dyer fell over, allowing Zenden to put a cross in. Mendieta was offside and Hasselbaink scored with his hand!! The referee allowed it! Hasselbaink was lucky to be on the pitch after two bookable challenges. And that was only seconds after Jenas put a shot wide from 6 yards with the keeper stranded.

There's no question that we deserved to win this, and should have won it 3-1. Middlesbrough played well for about 10 minutes and then played long ball for the rest of the game. Nicky Butt and Craig Bellamy were awesome though.

I don't care, i got a load of points for that in the trance addict fantasy football league :)

evil_bastard
Did you have Maradona (sorry, Hasselbaink) in attack?

I had Bellamy as captain but I don't care about that because Newcastle were robbed! :whip:
Billabong
tut tut tut, bitter newcastle supporters :):) how many points you end the day with after all.
