:haha: :haha:

Rather gutting for Real if it was true, he gets put behind bars just after they paid that money for him. :p

It would be hilarious if we have ripped Real Madrid off for 14M :D

But I wonder if we could get in any trouble if it turns out we knew about his problems and didn't tell them?

I doubt it, I doubt Newcastle would have known. I cant see us getting in trouble if we did, his personal life doesnt havent anything to do with the club IMO.

Defender Johnsen lands short-term Newcastle deal

Newcastle have confirmed the signing of former Aston Villa defender Ronny Johnsen until January.

The former Manchester United player was a free agent after he was released by Villa - and is the first signing by new manager Graeme Souness.

The central defender has been training with the Magpies and has undergone several fitness tests before Souness decided to offer him a deal.

The 35-year-old played in United side that secured the 1999 treble with victory in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

His last appearance was his 61st cap for Norway against Wales in May.

pretty ty performance, Nicky Butt - what the ? :|

NEWCASTLE UNITED 2 - 0 HAPOEL SAKHNIN
(Kluivert '2)
(Kluivert '42)

What a disgusting performance from the Israelis, half of their team could have been sent off but the referee allowed the game to descend into a very ugly affair, it was like a prison match in the second half and the Israelis were trying to take our players out of the game  Dyer and Hughes both limped off injured but I wouldn't be surprised if the whole team are carrying knocks.

One of them blatantly tried to break Jenas's leg in the second half when he was nowhere near the ball and just rammed his studs into his shin right in front of the ref. The referee only gave a yellow for it! Unbelievable. And Butt, who had only been on the pitch 2 minutes and 14 seconds, was so angry he came on and grabbed one of them by the throat. Given ran the length of the pitch to try and diffuse the argument but Nicky Butt was arguing with all their players and even their coaching staff who had obviously told their players at half time to try and injure us. Bellamy came off the subs bench to get involved.

Newcastle should have put this game away in the first half but we wasted chances and played sloppy football. Kluivert just looks world class, he was turning them inside out with his trickery, pace and strength, playing lovely through balls and took his chances to score twice, one of them a typical poachers goal and the other a bullet header.

Milner, Robert and Kluivert all had good games, but Dyer and Ameobi were poor.

btw the player that tackled Jenas, I dont think he meant to do that, they did have poor discipline as a whole though, their manager is meant to be a nutter!

evil_bastard
That tackle on Jenas was nowhere near the ball, in fact I think the ball was behind the player as he did it. That was a red card offence, tackles like that have ended people's careers. The refereeing was scandalous to say the least, he let the game degenerate into a fouling match and by the time he sent off Butt and Swan it was already too late as the tackles were coming in thick and fast and it was clear what the Israelis were trying to do. They can count themselves very lucky they ended the game with 10 men.

I'm disappointed we let them get to us but when the referee wouldn't do anything about it I can understand why our players didn't fancy holding onto the ball too long. Butt should have shown a lot more professionalism with his experience.

Butt could be smacked with three-match European ban

Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt is facing up to the possibility of a three-match European ban for his moment of Uefa Cup madness.

The 29-year-old England international lost his cool with Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin skipper Abas Suan just two minutes after replacing Kieron Dyer in Thursday night's stormy 2-0 victory at St James' Park, grabbing the player by the throat as the game turned ugly.

Portuguese referee Antonio Costa wasted little time in showing Butt the red card and also dismissed Suan for a second bookable offence and now the former Manchester United star will wait to hear his fate, although United are expecting the worst.

Butt will receive an automatic one-match ban for his sending-off but Uefa's disciplinary chiefs have the discretion to increase that to either two or three games depending on their view of the severity of his misdemeanour.

"At the moment, we're still awaiting the referee's report before a decision is taken on any further action,'' a Uefa spokesman said.

Johnsen deal 'until end of season'

Ronny Johnsen's agent Rune Hauge claims the Norwegian defender's new contract at Newcastle United runs until the end of the season.

Previous reports indicated that the deal would expire on 1 January.

"That is wrong," Hauge told Norwegian newspaper VG.

"The thing is that the contract has a clause which says that both Newcastle and Ronny can decide to terminate the deal on 1 January if certain conditions apply at the time.

"If Newcastle buy a new defender that keeps Ronny out of the team, he can find another club in January. And if Ronny gets injured and is unable to play for Newcastle, the club can terminate the deal."

Hauge revealed the 35-year-old Johnsen, who has Premiership experience with both Manchester United and Aston Villa, turned down an earlier approach from Southampton, but found the opportunity to join the Uefa Cup-chasing Newcastle too good to refuse.

Johnsen is excited about playing for such a well-supported club.

"Everything is good, and I have signed for Newcastle after training with the club," he told the Channel TV2 station.

"It is a very special experience to come here. This is a very big club with an enormous interest from the spectators."

The terms of Johnsen's contract will allow him to play for the Norwegian national team should he be called up by Aage Hareide.
