I'm so disheartened by this. He is still injured and i hope that he fails his medical. Life without Woody at the back could lead to a disastrous campaign.
:nervous: :nervous:
However, 15m = 2 new center half's?. Good buisness Freddy! |

The thing is what CB's can we get in the next 10 days?
Most clubs in Europe have already done their summer business, all the targets have been snatched up and as soon as our name gets mentioned people will double their price, because we're desparate and have a lot of money to spend.
I guess we will know whether this was a good deal or not on September 1st. |

It will be very difficult to buy an ideal replacement for Woody.
Your right, other clubs will try to bleed every penny out of us coz we are at the buisness end of the transfer window. Although the club cannot afford to dwell on the decision of whether or not a center half comes in now or in January. The move must happen now!. Even if it means we have to buy a defender of Woody's calibre for a large amount, the club has to do it.
If not, i dread another season with Bramble & O'Brien as our first choice defensive pairing and we can forget about CL football next term. |

We wanted to keep Woodgate - Shepherd
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has dismissed claims that he offered defender Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid 'on a plate'.
The 24-year-old has joined the Spanish giants for £13.4m after passing a medical on Friday morning.
But Shepherd insists the initial approach came from Real, adding they are the only club for which Woodgate would have signed.
"Real Madrid called us on Monday with an offer for Jonathan, and since then the transfer has followed the normal course of any deal,'' Shepherd told his club's website.
"The first we knew of any interest was when Madrid's representative called us on Monday. To suggest otherwise is complete rubbish, and it's certainly not about the money.
"We did not want Jonathan to leave Newcastle United, but you have to look at it from both sides. Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world - that's a fact.
"Which player wouldn't want to sign for Real Madrid if they come and show an interest in them?
"Jonathan has said that Real Madrid would have been the only club he'd have left Newcastle United for - he certainly wouldn't have joined another Premiership club."

Well that means what to us? |

| guys guys guys! i suppose u know how it feels to lose one of ure best players (if he is that) to Madrid now! but face it u havent done that bad in comparison with us. i know theyre different players but woody can be easily replaced and the team didnt do that much better with him last year cos he was injured so much. even if u dont get a good replacement before early sept, which im sure u will then its not the end of the world cos u still got other centre backs who have filled in for woodgate in the past and kept clean sheets. plus u got 4 mil more than we did for owen who ok is worth 3 times that if he hadnt been towards the end of his contract, but 4 mil is 4 mil. u can buy most defenders in the world with 14million who face it will play week in week out.. ok when hes fit hes a good player, but i wouldnt say hes anything more than that. hes worth the £13.4m but no more. ok hes a solid player and has a lot of influence on the defence, but so are players like kenny cuningham, southgate, ledley king and carragher, and they aint worth more than 10mil. no big loss.. done right to take the money |

You can't put Woodgate in the same category as Cunningham, Carragher or King, he is much better than that. He has major injury problems but in terms of ability when fit there is no comparison.
When he's fit, Woodgate is one of the best centre backs in the world, and I don't care if that sounds biased because he is absolutely amazing. Under Real Madrid he has the potential to become the best IMO.
Time will tell if we have made a sensible move or a major blunder. I have a gutting feeling that Real Madrid are going to groom him into the world's best centre back and in a couple of year's we will be kicking ourselves over this. But equally, he might never get over his injury problems, as some players don't, and we could look back on a very shrewd decision to take the money and run.
We have a race against time to spend that money now, but I don't see any top class defenders we can go for, they've all been taken by the looks of it. Maybe Ledley King if we offered 10M, but they would be reluctant to lose him at the end of the transfer window, espescially to another Premiership side. We may be forced to save the majority of the cash until January or next summer and go for a young English talent in the next 10 days like Callum Davenport or Michael Dawson. One thing's for sure, we are unlikely to get a defender of Woodgate's quality ever again. |

what im trying to say is that carragher cunningham and king are consistantly solid defenders like woodgate.
i see that Newcastle today have been linked with a 30M bid for Rooney and Freddy Shepard is trying to get the funds ready for xmas transfer window. Good replacement for Shearer.. |
