Well, good luck to all those people in N.O. and R.I.P to all those who didnt hear it comin. But, I must ask, why is it called Hurricane Katrina ? Anyone?

when hurricane season begins and a big tropical storm forms they name the first one A_______.. 2nd one B________. so on

It goes in ABC Order. Last year we had charley francis and gene within a month or 2.

edit: I dunno who does the name picking or what not but it was K's turn so it was named Katrina.

3 residents of New Orleans have already died.. the news is saying they were nursing home patients who couldn't deal with the stress of the evacuation.

Jesus Christ this is insane.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

that is a good site that will tell you about why they name them, etc.

At the beginning of November 1998, a huge and strong hurricane approached Central America, and it started raining. Too much rain, over paradise.

Anyone else thinking of that old classic?

My house in Miami got raped pretty bad, apparently. Power poles snapped like twigs, lost all the screening, etc. Nothing compared to Andrew though; but I don't remember too much of it except hoping that it never happens again ;)
All I can say to anyone in Katrina's path is: good ing luck.

I don't know, The fact the top part of the building has the dome shape, Could withstand those winds, The fact the shape on top is rounded, The winds can blow around it due to airal dynamic design.

quoting this cos it was convenient, not cos i'm targetting someone

And i realise that most people will feel safe in a bigger structure

but what happens when the firs lorry hits the roof rather than wind :\

Tigerclaw... liberals on TV arent the most informative of sources. Try the professionals that study this:

www.nhc.noaa.gov

Not a TV reporter... and as a hurricane blows on land if cannot gain strength... again do people not read earlier posts and just chime in on the last few posts?? wtf

Slylee
man, and here i thought i had it bad with no power for three days, stranded at home with my mom playing scrabble by candle light:wtf:

i am very nervous for anyone in its path...when it hit south florida, it was barely a category 1 and 7 people died (one guy right up the street from where i live)...trees down, power outages, flooding...it was crazy.

i used to think hurricanes were "fun" but that...i am really nervous about the rest of the hurricane season and my prayers go out to the people of Louisiana...i can't even imagine:(
ZzZ The Goddess
According to the news it was just downgraded to a class 4.
