Why have all the video images and still images of people that tried to stick it out and now are being rescued..... are of african american descent? Im amazed that is what I am seeing on the TV? Is it a money issue.... or a cultural thing?? Im kinda curious and this is in no way me trying to be racist or anything of that nature.

The reason being in order to evacuate, you need resources (i.e. a Car, money for gas, hotel, or some family you can go to). Most of the poeple you saw the Superdome are among the poorest in New Orleans. For them, a car is unattainable. So getting out of the city was impossible, thus they sought shelter in the Dome. If you watched the footage closely, you did see a fair share of Whites, Latins, and other Non-Blacks. But the vast majority of people who are below the poverty line are black...whether it be Boston, New York, or New Orleans.

No racism is inferred by your statement. You are just making an observation.

On a completely different note, what amazes me is that property value in towns and cities in Florida which have been ravaged by hurricanes in the last decade continue to rise every here. Up 30% in some areas over last year! :conf:

another observation i noticed, it is minor, are those that did evacuate and had pets, why did they leave them there? are you not allowed to bring them to shelters or something? i know it is minor and i am not saying that it is more important than human life (i say they are on the same level, but that is a whole other discussion), but i am an animal lover and i would never leave my cats back if i had to leave, they would be right there with me.

the reason of this was that when you have 10 - 30 thousand people confined to one place u cant allow animals in there for sanitary purposes not all have shots some people might have allergies. I guess thats a risk they cant take at the moment. Its very sad because im a animal lover as well, but whats really sad is people having there dogs stilled chained up in there backyard during this hurricane and didnt let them go to give them any kind of chance to live.

:(

i guess i never thought of it that way, but i would sneak my cats in there. they have shots and as for allergies, people can deal with it for a little bit. sorry it is selfish, but well i couldnt leave them to suffer.

people left their dogs chained up? omg, that is so sad :(.

gah...people shouldnt choose to lock up their pets :\ that is one hell of a choice to take on yourself and let them stare into the teeth of the storm.

I stare at teeth STfu!!

that wasn't racism you got banned for, cause you were abusing someone of your own race, so its prolly nationalism or homophobia.

/end of digression

I saw the whole superdome deal.... what I was refering to was people that had to be chopped out of their houses and ones that were on the roof of their house and all..

ok, mr. man.

FYI- im still right.

there really isn't HURRICANE insurance.

maybe some things a hurricane causes like some property damage due to wind and water and the like, but as far as a HURRICANE goes, ixnay.

Dude, I agreed with you... there is no specific hurricane damage. What you're missing is that nearly all the damage that a hurricane causes is covered by other sections of the policy, thus, the damage resultant from a hurricane is covered.

There is not meteorite coverage either, however, if your house gets hit by a meteorite you're covered (falling object).
