You know what's unbelievable to me? When natural disasters strike other nations (Tsunami in Asia, Earthquakes in Japan, famine and disease in Afirca), who's there lending the most help? The United States. So, now that we've been hit by this abomination of nature, where is the rest of the world?

They are silent...and I'm not surprised.

you are wrong - 12 different countries have now pledged aid and i'm sure more will come.

stop complaining about other countries helping and instead, make sure YOU go to http://www.redcross.org and do what YOU can to help

Source?

Trust me I'm not complaining. They can go off for all I care. I was just merely pointing out that we're often scorned for not doing enough, not acting fast enough to help other countries. Let's see what happens when the shoe is on the other foot.

Logical answer is.. the US can substantiate itself, it has the money, it has the sources, it has the machinery, it can support itself, besides been the richest country in the world no?.. if I can remember, on 9-11 bunch of country's offered help. There's no need for that in this case so far.

LOL, that was a good one.

Does anyone know how to volunteer to help out? On the Red Cross website all I found was a way to donate money.

the volunteer info is under jobs on the Red Cross website :) Just looked myself... it should give you a number, and there is a link to lookup oppotunities.

Everyone help in anyway you can... we are a resilient nation, we will overcome, I have faith that our country will work together to help all of those in the gulf coast area....

My .02 on the international response... We are a wealthy nation in comparison to most of those we help, so I wouldn't expect those less fortunate to give aid, but at the same time, it does sting a little to feel like, as a country, we really feel for the people and countries who go through situations like these, and yet when we have something like this happen, it seems that there is little in the way of condolences for our loss. I know there are some countries who have offered help... don't get me wrong, but I have also heard of people, (some in our own country), say we deserved it.... I can't comprehend how someone can have such disregard for life to not even feel bad about what happened.

Anyway, on the whole, I think we will come out of this stronger and closer, appreciating what we have and appreciating the generosity of our country, despite our differences...
