the family and i are fine ... for now ..

we live in the northern parts of southeastern louisiana .. it's kinda good in a way, because we are away from the gulf, therefore not getting the coastal pushes from the hurricane .. however, when the hurricane pushes the water up, and then the hurricane whips around from east to west, pushing more water into our lake, then we have problems .. that is something we are hoping that will not happen ...

it sounds confusing, but if you see an enlarged map of louisiana, you will see what i am talking about (lake pontchartrain) ..

Actually, I havent watched the news that much today.

And anyway, what does the news have to do with what I said? I think its pretty clear in whats been discussed in this thread that there will be ALOT of damage, if not complete annihilation.

With 20-25 foot surges, you can bet your ass that the sea level is gonna rise.

nah . too much weather channel ..

i was watching some of it, and this fool comes on the camera, and talks about the detriments of a cat5 hurricane on louisiana ...

he says that if a cat5 hurricane hit new orleans, about 40000 to 60000 people will die .. :nervous: .. i told my family that is malarky ..

then again, the prophecies show that louisiana will be underground in the future, so we will never know when that will happen .. :nervous:

pray and hope it doesnt happen, but i was just thinkng about that

I think the Superdome will hold up. It's a pretty impressive structure. What's crazy is that the floor of it isn't where everyone will be held. They'll be in the stands/offices... and most of the people that will be holding shelter there are hospital patients that can't really get out of the city.

My sister called earlier crying her eyes out about her place. The only things she was really able to get out of there were her school books and some clothes. They're saying if you can't get to about 3 stories, you're going to be flooded. I really wish the storm would've moved further westward and hit less populated areas. It's hard to wish that on those residents, but it would be a lot easier to rebuild and the devastation would be a bit less.

But, material things are replaceable. I just hope the casualties are as low as they possibly can be.

what prophecies?

40000 to 60000? Thats obsurd. Thats them just trying to scare the people who think they can sit it out - obviously those that are gonna get a direct hit arent wise, actually, they are pretty stupid.

Whoa! I didn't know you lived in LA too! Pleased to meet ya neighbor.. heh. I hope you come through this thing alright. I'm lucky to be further north up in the central part of the state. Well, lucky for these reasons. Not lucky for the sake of hickdom and boredom.

when you are talking about the surges and everything, think about the tsunami effects that happened in asia earlier this year ..

what the hurricane is doing is pushing the gulf water to louisiana ..

yeah .. it is going to rise .. just hope not too much of course .. the biggest surge we have gotten in our neighborhood so far in the past 20 years is about 10 feet .. our levee is about 7 feet, so the streets had about 2 feet of water floating around .. took about 3 days to drain down to the sewers .. so with this hurricane, i wonder how long the sewers can drain out the floods ?? :conf:
Vlad
I saw an interview on channel 7 (eyewitness news) and they talked to the guy that runs the drainage system in NO. He openly admitted that whats gonna happen is devastating.
