In 02 they were the defending champions of the World Cup and the European cup becoming the only country to win both in succession.

This is a new french team (many new faces) so thats why im finding it hard that you are comparing the "hype" between the 02 squad and the current squad

the "hype" that i'm talking about is yes they are favorites to win along with a couple more nations....but more specifically the hype surrounding the individual players on that team (nasri, malouda, benzema, ribery, ect) all great great players, not to say the least, but like in 02, they had great players as well and still failed because of the lack in TEAM chemistry....

France hasnt been playing well for quite some time now, with these new faces...i feel france as a team still needs quite some time to get back into dominating form like they were

Well it should be an interesting match, Poland and Germany have a hatred that is very deep. Go back to the Nazi invasion of Poland, they got hit the worst out of anyone...during the world cup when they played eachother fans were to come out of separate train stations and to stay in line on a carpeted area until they were separated and seated in the stadium.

Some of Germany's more valuable players are actually polish...the game should be really entertaining I'm probably going to get some flack from the wife for this but...Go Germany lol!

lol, I think most Polish people under the age of 60 have gotten over WWII by now. That being said, Germany has three Polish players on the team. Their star strikers (Klose and Podolski) even communicate in Polish on the pitch. That makes us a little bitter.

If Poland beats Germany, I'll go nuts.

Italy have been playing well the last little bit....and if the French coach is still undecided on how he should play his team (so you claim with the French's barely winning at home against Columbia...where they should have actually lost) then their going to be slow coming out of the group stages...and personally can't see them pick up the pace in time to get out

Just remember in '02, where the same hype was being said about them, and they got eliminating out of the group stages without scoring a goal

*IF* they get out of the group this year around, it will be on goal difference with either Italy or Romania (but Italy have both the individual skills and team chemistry to get out of the group, for the later stages :nervous: dont know)

like i said I wouldn't base their preformance in Euro on their friendly's. they seem to be more experiments in selection than anything. France also has had a history of playing bad against the weaker teams but showing up to the big games.

Spaniard said it well, losing Zizou was a big blow to them but i have confidence in their ability. we'll see what happens.

vs Columbia, France seemed to have their full starting squad in place...(maybe one to argue if Nasri would start)

like you said, anything can happen...we'll just have to wait and see...personally their form at the moment isn't significant enough to go far in this tournament

well yeah as someone here mentioned they had a slow start to the WC as well. they got into significantly better shape as the tournament moved along. its always a challange that brings out the best in them

I think its safe to say we have the coolest coach @ the tournament this year.

Slaven Bilić rocks out with Rawbau on a Split rooftop (©AFP)

Not content with simply managing Croatia at UEFA EURO 2008™, coach Slaven Bilić may have also written a fans' anthem for the finals with his rock band, Rawbau.

Rooftop performance
There were parallels with the Beatles as the 39-year-old led his group in a rooftop performance of their new song, Vatreno Ludilo (Flaming Madness), in the centre of Split at the weekend. With Croatia's players being nicknamed 'vatreni' – firebrands – for the passion they have for the national team, the song could yet be adopted by fans in Austria and Switzerland.

Metal mayhem
Bilić plays guitar for Rawbau but wrote the lyrics for their latest effort. A keen fan of heavy metal, and Metallica in particular, the former defender played down the significance of his new song, saying: "I don't think it's a new fan anthem – it's just a fan song. I really adore music but I have to say that football is my life."
