TOTA EURO 2008 Thread (pg. 9)

The thing is with that group is in recent times, BOTH France & Italy have been slow starters. Italy obviously has more of that reuptation but France was very far from impressive in the first round of the last WC. If anyone remembers correctly, Romania was put in a similar group in Euro 2000 and surprised everyone by getting out with Germany, England and Portugal being their oppositions. It could very well happen this time around, with Mutu in the form he's in when playing with the Romania shirt... the whole tournament could be theirs. They have nothing to lose and are steaking out any team that accidently slips up in the group.

Also, it's going to be interesting to see how France copes without Zizou. Everyone is talking about how great the new generation is blah blah... but at the end of the day, without Zizou the French are not the proven winning team they were from 98-2006. How many times did people say he was finished, he was absent in games only to make the most dramatic plays of the whole tournament and to seem like he was on a different playing field than the other 21 players. When push comes to shove, Zizou never walked away and if Ribery, Nasri, Benzema are going to lead the charge, we're going to find out in the first 3 matches. I don't doubt that they'll get out of the group, the talent is there individually.

I'm rooting for Germany, but I know that Germany are the worst starters and I wouldn't be surprised that Poland gets away with a draw this Sunday.

Aside for Russia I am rooting for Croatia. They played amazing in the qualifying matches:) And if it was not for them we'd never be at the Euro Cup.

Other than that I'll just have to wait and see which team wins my sympathies. It's all about the game and quality of football)))

Well it should be an interesting match, Poland and Germany have a hatred that is very deep. Go back to the Nazi invasion of Poland, they got hit the worst out of anyone...during the world cup when they played eachother fans were to come out of separate train stations and to stay in line on a carpeted area until they were separated and seated in the stadium.

Some of Germany's more valuable players are actually polish...the game should be really entertaining I'm probably going to get some flack from the wife for this but...Go Germany lol!

Italy have been playing well the last little bit....and if the French coach is still undecided on how he should play his team (so you claim with the French's barely winning at home against Columbia...where they should have actually lost) then their going to be slow coming out of the group stages...and personally can't see them pick up the pace in time to get out

Just remember in '02, where the same hype was being said about them, and they got eliminating out of the group stages without scoring a goal

*IF* they get out of the group this year around, it will be on goal difference with either Italy or Romania (but Italy have both the individual skills and team chemistry to get out of the group, for the later stages :nervous: dont know)

watch for them to come in last in their group (imo)....they don't have players like seedorf, babel, ect...

give them a few years....their in a major rebuilding stage, but it will be worth it

There is no way the "hype" for France is the same as in 02...what did u base that on? IMO there is no real hype for France they are simply one of the tourny favourites along with Portugal, Germany, Italy, Holland etc.

In 02 they were the defending champions of the World Cup and the European cup becoming the only country to win both in succession.

This is a new french team (many new faces) so thats why im finding it hard that you are comparing the "hype" between the 02 squad and the current squad
